I got a letter through the door this morning about it. I am already on Vodafone 3G but I did a manual test a few months ago to see if there was any other network provider in the area for 3G but none.

I take it this project is to provide Three 3G to places that don't receive it at the minute. Does anyone know will it be the upgraded 7.2MBits/s or just the 3.6Mbits/sec which I am supposedly meant to be getting with Vodafone.

It will be provided by 3, their network is up to speeds of 7.2 mbps but you will NEVER NEVER NEVER get those speeds

Im on the NBS with 3 for the past 3 months,*when* it works its good download speed in reality is between 1.5 and 2mbs.Ive had nothing but trouble since joining them I have spent more time on to their so called tec support than I have online.I cant get connected most times I sit in front of the computer and if I do it will probably display the first page I open and then no more.In fact im not wondering will it still be working when im ready to post this. Its a head-wrecking service as far as im concerened.

Their engineer installed a repeater at my house a few days ago, improved the signal but not the service.Im convinced its an issue with the cell site as I have tried everything I can think of including changing the E180 modem and trying two computers one has XP the other is multiboot XP/Vista
Cant change to any other provider no coverage I live out in the country

most people have a good enough "signal" coming into their house to get the service but the service is oversubscribed so even if you get 100% signal you will still have trouble connecting and still only have sub dial-up speeds at peak times as there are just too many people trying to get online at the same time and three can not aford to increase capacity as it costs too much to build more masts etc when they are only charging €20/month

Signal strength alone is meaningless, as it's only one part of what you need. The NBS is a big lie, it is technologically impossible for them to guarantee the speeds they have guaranteed, and they know it, which is even worse. Since this is a mobile product, then by it's very design it is impossible to control the number of users in any particular sector.

More info at this website, and you'll see just how contention effects things. Even with a signal, you could have no connection, and even though you have signal today, you may not even have it all the time.

You should cancel now, as this really isn't going to get any better, it'll probably just get worse. You could vent your anger at Minister Ryan, since he's the (only) one who actually believes that this is the solution.

Complain to Minister Ryan at the DCENR about it and tell him that if 3 do not deliver you will go to Brussels !!

Pm me more details ,such as your Electoral District etc . Make sure you tell Ryan where you are including teh electoral district !
