I was dealing with a Client who's recently changed web hosting for their emails. Their last email connection was with IMAP and so I created one for POP3 which the new hosting requires. I was not able to amend the old IMAP connection to POP3, hence I had to make a new one.

When I did that some of their old emails that were saved in a directory structure just seem to have disappeared and have no mailbox attached. When I select these emails they seem to be empty. Any help on how I can get back the old emails?

I did not delete anything during the whole process!!!

I presume that the user is using Apple Mail(?)

If you didn't delete the old IMAP account in the Accounts section of the Mail app's Preferences, then the mails should be in a folder in the path (Hard Drive name)>Users>(User's Home Folder)>Library>Mail>...

You should be able to copy them to another drive/folder for safety, then try dragging the originals to the new POP folder and then rebuild* the mailbox within Mail to show all of the newly-moved mails.

However, if you deleted the old IMAP account in Mail, the old mails are gone (Been there, done that :( )

*To rebuild, select the mailbox in the pane on the left of the main Mail window, and in the menu bar, select Mailbox>Rebuild. You might have to do it separately for inbox, sent etc.
