Old Comedy Programme

We're trying to think of the name of an old (1980s ?) comedy programme set in Liverpool, (not Liver Birds or Bread) - but it was based on an on-and-off love story between a very pretty little dark-haired girl and her goofy boyfriend. There was one character, a fun-loving woman who had a young son she was trying to get rid of - by trying to encourage him to join the navy. He was only about 12, but she would buy him things for Christmas like an album of sea-shanties.

Can anyone remember the name of it ?
