Im giving the Volvo s60 D5 serious consideration as my next car. Anyone have any comments/experience on these cars? - the diesel model that is.

    Thanks in advance!

Have an '03 auto one this last year, love it. What year are you looking for? Your probably going younger but here is my few shillings worth. Very comfortable ride and a great drive. The SE version in particular is very well kitted out, full, leather, heated seats etc.., as good as, if not better than the equivilent BMW. From 0-60 its not the quickest, but it excels at mid range. My version has 340Nm torque, resulting in great acceleration when overtaking. Nice car to cruise along in at 80+. MPG is quite good, the on board computer (probably +/- 5-10%) is currently reading 49mpg. Thats over about 1500 miles, 30% of them city driving. You would probably expect further improvement in a manual.
Good boot although, it may be a little tight in the back as a family car, check it out. Can't think of anything else, I can recall no horror stories about the D5 engine but if I do i'll let you know

Im considering either an 07 irish one, or an 08 one from the uk.
The 08 one looks like it can be on the road here with vrt paid, etc for circa 21k.
Its not the SE though, just the S version.

From late 05 onwards it should be the upgraded 185bhp engine rather than the 163bhp (still available as the 2.4D). The 08 S Spec may have full leather and the 17" wheels as they were beginning to add extra's to the run out models. If not, I'd defiantely hold out for an SE spec to stand any chance of selling it on in the future.

I've driven a V70 D5 with the upgraded engine and it was very nice to drive. I've only driven the S60 with the 2.0T engine. For me, the steering was a bit too light, but with a heavier engine up front it may be weightier. The steering lock on them is pretty bad too and the space in the rear seats is not great. Apart from those gripes there's nothing bad to report on the S60 - if you like the old Skool styling of the interior.
