Just before june i left my job to go to america for 3 months

My question is that now that im back when i apply for the dole do i still have to wait the maximum amount of weeks before i get any money or is it reduced? and also can i claim all the weeks i have not been working back?

Im pretty broke and ill find it very hard to last for 11 weeks
Do i have to wait the entire amount of weeks before i get a penny?
What is the diffrence between job seekers benifit and the dole?
    Thanks in advance :)

You need to get down to your local social welfare office pronto! Claims are only taken from the first day you present yourself, and are not usually back dated.

It all depends if you are going on a means tested payment (Jobseekers Allowance) or if it is based on your PRSI contributions from 2007 - Jobseekers Benefit. This is not means tested and are usually straightforward and quicker to process.

If you do not have enough contributions you will have to be means tested , and this can take some time. You can always apply for payment from your Community welfare officer (Health Board) while your claim is being processed.

Anyway, get down to your local office in the morning. Bring photographic ID, and your P45 from your last job. And a lot of patience.....

I might be offered my old job back but on a 2/3 day a week.
My boss has clearly said that he will not sign any documents stating that i am on a 3 day or less than 5 day a week to do with the social welfare so i cannot get the social welfare for the rest of the week that i am not working.
I have seen him do this with another worker.

I was just wondering if i should go back to work here becuase i wont be making very much money and i would be making more on the dole.
Also i might lose my backpayment (if i get any)
Any advice here would be much appricated
    Thanks a lot

That is very odd, and if it's not illegal it should be. As it stands I would not work for such an employer.

As per above, if a potential employer is refusing to do something as simple as help you get your social welfare entitlements, then I wouldn't work for him, since chances are it's a crap place to work.

If you applied and haven't recieved payment yet and take a job, you'll get the backpay in between, so don't worry about that.

Still wouldn't work for this guy though. Sounds like a cowboy.

Yeah i dont understand why he wont sign it?
I left on bad terms so when i go back its gonna be hell working there but im so desperate for money right now if i knew i could get money somehow from the dole in the next few weeks then i wouldnt work there
My friend is trying to get me a job in the bar he works at but it wont be for a few weeks so hopefully i can work there instead

A three day work week is probably the same amount as the Dole and you won't have to life a finger. It's gloomy enough in Ireland right now without having a nasty boss too.

Just sign on trying to get Job Seekers Allowance, you should be fine... But do it ASAP as you're meant to apply for SW as soon as you're unemployed i.e. as soon as you came back from America

Would it be next week? few weeks? or months?

    Hello,

I got let go from my job back at the end of May and I was due to go on holiday for three weeks from my job - needless to say I had to make a decision to stay and sign on or go an enjoy myself....................Guess what I did?

Three months later I got back to Ireland, broke and no job anywhere to be found, next stop the dole office.

I was expecting a nightmare due to some of the stories I had read on here but what an easy experience I had (I was shocked ).

I brought all the documents (thanks boards.ie) I needed to the dole and spoke to a lady who filled out my form for me and said wait to hear from us ...............but, four days later I had my letter stating that I was on JSB and to collect my first payment on XX of the month. :D

You wont get back dated - your claim starts from the date you sign on at the dole office.

Maybe I was lucky with how fast the claim went through but remember to bring all the documents with you.

    PPS Number
    P45
Phone Bill/Gas etc (for proof of address)
    Passport

You'll get JSB if you have worked continuously for two years and have enough PRSI contributions before you left the country.

If you dont get JSB then you'll be means tested and may get JSA.

    Hope this helps.

Yeah im more or less in the same boat exept i left my left my job and wasnt let go, Would this affect me much?
Also they are advertising for the job they have offered me which is part time but would be less money than the dole

Would they ring my last employer to see how i left or anything?

I should have loads of prsi contributions because ive been working since i was 16 and just under 5 years full time im 24 now so i dont think that should be a problem

Can anyone tell me the likelyhood that it will be a long wait or a short wait before i get money from the dole because thats all i really need to know because im soo broke at the moment, I dont think ive ever been this broke in my life
