Well then whats the point of your post? Just tell them what you told me.

Just be aware is all im saying.
If your sick or unavailable for work they sign you off, they've done it to my partners brother.

If you did have a job would the doctor have signed you off work, thats what you have to ask yourself?

I'm sure they won't pass any notice, unless you're a builder or a dancer by trade or something :)

You would be far better off signing off and going on Disability Benefit. You just need to supply a weekly cert from your doctor and payment will be made to you by cheque or into your bank. No more signing on either. But it's up to you.....

If someone is on JSA they aren't eligible for illness benefit.

Also, you aren't paid for the first 3 days of illness benefit.

Yes, but if they were on a benefit payment, they are elgible for Illness Benefit and they would not lose the first three days.

I was in a bad accident and went in with a cast and sling on and my face covered in scars.

When I asked them if I should go on Disability Benefit they said no- that's only for people who would be long-term ill- for at least over a year.

With the amount of people on JA, in reality it was no point bothering going through the hassle of trying to change my status for only a few months

Re: the last poster - the Dept was more than likely referring to disability allowance and not Illness Benefit - as DA is the payment covering long-term illnesses that has or is likely to last one year. People also lose the first three day's of an IB claim.

It would depend on the nature of your work - whether a fracture of the limb would affect you in meeting the criteria for being available for and genuinely seeking work.... depending on the type of jobseeking - it wouldnt necessarily affect you - but if you were looking for a job that required you being fully mobile - it would abviously affect your availability to take up employment.

Well I lost the power in my writing hand for a while so not too sure what jobs I could have done.

The lad in the Dole office just said not to bother since I'd only have the sling on for a few months. Maybe it's different for crutches though...

i was late filing for JSB i put down on my form it was due to an injury. the deciding officer called about it. she was about to suggest that i go on disability til i told her i'd only be a week or so like that so she left it alone. so i guess it may be down to the person you have to talk to.

i have to say signing on this time compared to teh last time i did was so different. granted last tie it was about 15 years ago but i was treated like i had the plague. this time they were extremly pleseant and helpful. i'm expecing to wake up any time now and for it to be august
