I heard on the grapevine in work that half of my department are being put on a 3 day week very soon. I'm one of the last people in so I'm 99% sure that I'll be one of them.

My question is, if I am put on a 3 day week and get a 40% paycut, will I be entitled to any sort of social welfare payment?

I was informed on Friday that as and from the 1st October, I will be going on a three day week. My employer told me that I could claim three days from Social Welfare. Is this correct? Also, are there any other benefits that I would be entitled to? I am in my sixties and recently purchased a new house. The mortgage loan is only over ten years so the repayments are very high and because of the drop in my salary I am not going to be able to afford them. And lastly (for the moment), my wife has a chronic illness so would she be entitled to a medical card? She is 65 years old, unable to work and is currently paying 100 euros per month for her medication. She doesn't have a GP card either. I haven't been out of work in since I started 45 years ago and I know absolutely nothing about dole or anything else so I would really appreciate any advice that is offered. Thanks in advance.
