Im thinking of getting my own laptop but Im unsure of the difference between a laptop and a 'netbook' and what would be better suited for me.
Really it's just something I can have my itunes on and browse the internet. Its a plus if I can put games and that on it.

I don't know much about them so I don't know what I should be looking for, or what price. Prefebly I wouldn't want to pay much over 300euro, but I don't know if thats possible?

Any help is greatly appreciated. :D

Laptop and notebook are different names for the same thing.

    Notebook = Laptop
Now you may be thinking of a Netbook, in which case the difference between a laptop and a netbook is:
*Netbooks are generally very small (around 10")
    *Quite Cheap (Under 400 generally)
*can have a very long battery life, this depends on the model.
    *They also lack cd/dvd drives,
*They're not terribly fast, but they'll be fine for basic internet browsing, office apps and things like that.

    Now Laptops will be:
    *Larger,
    *Heavier
    *Faster,
    *Have cd/dvd/bluray drives,
*Usually not as good on the battery life front.
*More expensive, although it will depend on "What" laptop it is.

I'll be honest, im really not sure thats how clueless I am...

There is becoming a wide spectrum between, say, a top of the range (heavy) Laptop and a basic, tiny Netbook. Netbooks are maturing into a sub group of their own with big differences in specs, and price.

For itunes and internet I would suggest a netbook. You'll need a decent amount of storage however if you're going to keep all your music on it (unless you use an external harddrive for that purpose). Games are a different story. What games do you have in mind?
If it only simple games like you find online then your grand but you won't be running anything heavily 3D.

Something like this would probably be ideal:

Of course its quite small and so is the keyboard so that may be a put off.

Umm seeing as I barely know what you mean by external hardware....
I'd rather my itunes on the computar(thats what i'll call it at this stage!) It's an 8gb one if that means anything?

Oh I wouldn't worry about games I'd get a laptop/notebook and if games work they work but I wouldn't arrange buying one just for the sake of them, if you know what I mean.

And I'll click into that. Thank you. :)

External hard drive. Its a box wot you store large amounts on data on that you can connect to your computer with a USB cable often to back up your existing data.

All computers have a device called a harddrive (of one form or another) where all your files and the operating system and the programs you install and use (such as itunes) are kept. Sometimes you need more space or just want to keep all your music and photos etc backed up somewhere safe in case you break/drop/lose your laptop. An external harddrive is a book sized box containing a hard drive that you can plug into your computer and treat as a big huge memory stick.

An ipod is essentially the same thing with a media player to play the files stored on it. (Therefore an ipod is essentially a mini computer also)

So your ipod is 8GB. That EeePc has a 160GB harddrive so if you have a collection of mp3 that isn't much larger than your ipods capacity then your grand. If you're an audiophile you may have hundreds, even thousands of albums that would take up a hundred ipods. (800 GB or roughly 1 Terrabyte). People like this tend to need lots of hard drive space to store all this stuff.

itunes is a program on your laptop that lets you take music files stored on a harddrive your computer has access to and copy them to the ipod to be played on it. (posh way of copying and pasting). Your ipod is 8GB not itunes.

With itunes you can keep all your music on an external harddrive and have itunes on the laptop. itunes is on the laptop but you would need to connect the external harddrive for itunes to be able to play the music. However once the music is on your ipod it is on your ipod regardless.

However since you probably don't have that much music you can keep it on your laptop and not worry about an external harddrive. (you should backup your data however!)

To keep it really simple, netbooks won't have a cd drive or a dvd drive

    I had forgotten that!

You'll need access to an external DVD/CD drive.

TBH, the guys in computer shops (I'm looking at you PC World) are a waste of time. They're lying bastards that only want to sell you over priced trash.

The prices in pcworld are not as bad as they used to be.
Don't let them talk you into buying the added on warranty and software.
    You don't need them.
And definitely don't buy any anti-virus software (norton or mcafee) from them

    Okay I'm back :pac:
I've decided that a laptop would be better because for my itunes I may want to import cds and it would be easier for it to have a dvd/cd drive then having to get one extra that I probs wouldn't understand!

Since I have decided on a laptop I've brought my budget up to aorund 500-600 euro.
Same needs really it doesn't have to be any thing fancy really just so I can have my itunes and browse the internet on it.

Well then have a look at these Dells:
    http://ireland.dell.com/ie/en/home/Laptops/laptop-inspiron-1545/pd.aspx?refid=laptop-inspiron-1545&s=dhs&cs=iedhs1
You should get everything you need for under 400.

BTW if you're in a university or work for one of Dell bigger customers (or indeed know someone who is) you can get the Dell employee discount.

Or you could get a bigger one with a 17" like this.
Neither machines are going to be particuarily fast but should suit your needs.
