Just got a samsung R520 with 64bit vista off laptopsdirect.ie on friday. Was working fine until monday when it started acting a bit dodgy. Some symptoms are:

Getting stuck on the "logging off" screen when shutting down.

Safe Mode will no longer boot fully (Gets to the deskptop but nothing loads inc.the taskbar)

Even when connected to the internet the "network unplugged" symbol still shows even though i'm able to browse the net.

Sometimes when it loads up i can't start any programmes ie. firefox.

All the time i can't load the task manager or other system programmes such as system restore.

Righteo so does anyone have any ideas as to how to resolve this? I didn't get a vista cd with the laptop so i can't simply wipe the HDD.

Well since you never got the Vista CD and no PC is as nicely setup as a clean OS only install, I would highly recommend downloading and install Windows 7 instead, it's a huge improvement. Saves you trying to troubleshoot and start using a better OS straight away, plus you'll be eligible for the free upgrade to it in October.

Interesting... Thing is i don't want to try install windows 7 and then end up screwing over my laptop somehow, i have a habit for doing things like that.

Really, it couldn't be simpler - Windows 7 Update will pick up all required drivers needed and install them for you too - you won't regret it.

With regards to the problem itself, tell us what you have installed or changed since Monday.

Don't think windows 7 is available for download anymore (legit anyways)
I also had desperate problems with my laptop when I bought it (Vista). Kept getting blue screens of death, freezing programs etc. Tried formatting it a couple times even when service pack updates came out and same thing happened. Installed Windows 7 and never looked back. It even got me to ditch my pirate copy of beloved XP :)

Well it was free to download via Microsoft so even over BitTorrent is still legal, sure Microsoft are still giving out keys for the RC1 version. Once your logged into a MSN, Live or Hotmail account, click either of the following links: 32-bit or 64-bit

They won't work for anyone the RC is not available any more .
You will either have to Download from a torrent or borrow a disc from somebody

Be warned if you have to return it to laptopsdirect.ie, the return service is dire. First it isn't in Ireland but UK. Their courier only ships to UK once a week. One part of Laptopsdirect doesn't talk to the other. I bought a laptop 24/08/09 returned the next day and I still haven't had a replacement. Promised for tomorrow but I haven't received any shipping notices yet, so I'm not hopeful. I'm never buying from them again. PC world for me, at least I can shout at them if needed.

Ah it's all sorted. Starting working perfectly for me again last night, seemed to coincide with windows defender popping up...
