Hi, i'm toying with the idea of starting a fast food deli type affair... ideal location would be temple bar.

it's a unique enough concept so really think it could be a goer.

anyway, does anyone know what the start up cost for something like this... i've looked into rents for the area, roughly 25k per anum.

i assume i'd have to sign up for a year lease?

i'd have about 10k start up money myself.... more if i can get a mate involved.....

is there any money available off enterprise boards?

    are banks lending again?

    cheers.

I'm by no means an expert in this field, but there is not a snowballs chance that you will be able to launch a successful fast food business in a prime location (or indeed any location) when you only have €10k to put forward, unless your mate has an awful lot of cash (and more importantly experience and expertise in this area) you aren't going to get anywhere.

If I were you I'd go back to the drawing board and look for something else.

By all accounts rent is a very small percentage of annual costs in a fast food business. Most likely even if you found an ideal spot and you had enough money to go ahead with it, the landlord most likely wont lease to you if you do not have experience or a solid business plan behind you.
Enterprise boards aren't going to touch you unless you have a solid business plan and experience and banks aren't going to lend to you unless you are absolutely watertight at the moment.
If you do a search for deli or cafe or fast food business on this forum you will find a lot of similar threads and might gain some useful information

I don't want to come across as harsh but there is an awful lot to think about before pursuing something like this at all.

thanks for the feedback... this is what i need to hear...

normally i wouldn't consider anything like this... but i'm very confident in the uniqueness of this... i've seen something similar in action, looked like a little gold mine... and it's really simple....

i have read that fast food places are doing well....

    i'll have a search for deli/fast food...

I know I'm being very blunt etc but its a disaster of an idea.

fast food places are being decimated, you won't get a landlord who will rent to you, you won't get a bank who will lend to you for a food venture

and even if you do, the big guys around you will target you and obliterate you when you open.

You can go into londis in twon and get a hot chicken roll with 2 salads, a portion of wedges or a portion of chicken wings for €2.49, and they will also throw in a bottle of water.

the arse has totally fallen out of it

if you have any specific questions about delis etc pls fire away here or by pm, its my main speciality. I would be delighted to help/answer anything for you, by forum or by phone

Id visit mc cabes deli near the irish times building in dublin.

Best deli in dublin, you might pick up a few tips.

25k per anum around Temple Bar sounds very very cheap the premises must be tiny. And dont forget most commercial rnts are quoted less V.A.T you will also have Business and water rates to figure in which i imagine would be fairly high in central Dublin. You will need to set up a ltd company also. Best bet talk to your accountant

Lidl and Aldi are entering the C-store/deli market in the new year. Sandwhich, crisps and a soft drink for €0.99 ,could make the market very difficult for the existing players let alone a new stand alone concept.

Research the hell out of it though before giving up on it.
