I am planning to go to Skerries (from Dundalk) this weekend, to meet a friend that met me in Dundalk last week.

There is a special deal with Irish Rail that a return fare to Dublin is €10 (after 9:20am). However, my friend paid €22 to get from Skerries to Dundak two weeks ago! (Link to deal)

Would I able to buy a ticket to Dublin Connolly (yes I know about the bridge, but surely they'd still sell the ticket as there is bus transfers) but get off at Skerries. Would they accept the ticket in Skerries for the return journey?

    Thanks for reading!

Yous should really have a ticket Dundalk-Skerries to be within the rules. You might get away with it with the bus transfers though I suppose. I'm nearly sure that it should be 10 quid to skerries too. Well.....no not it should be.......but in practice thats whats done.

Also most Dundalk-Dublin passengers get bus transfers at Drogheda, not Skerries.

I filled out the fares enquires form on the website, and a Day Return from Dundalk to Skerries is €24.50 - far too dear considering Dublin Return is only €10 :(

If specifically state in the Irish Rail fair rules buying a ticket for a longer journey get using it for a more expensive short journey is not allowed....

Ring them and ask. I'm nearly sure they'll only charge you 10e. After 9.30am that is.

Special offer is €10 Dundalk Dublin, not going to Dublin, you pay normal price

Like i say, in practice i believe its different. I say this because I have seen Skerries and Rush/Lush issue 10e returns to Drogheda and also the opposite direction.

    Thanks for all the replies

So what should I say at the Station (Dundalk)? That I am looking for a return to Dublin or a return to Skerries. If I say Skerries first and then hear it's going to be €24.50 and then change my mind and decide to go to Dublin Connolly, it will look a bit odd :o

Tell them exactly what you want. Your going to Skerries and you want to know if the 10 ticket would cover that. If they say know, tell them Drogheda issue them to Skerries so they should too.

I asked for a ticket to Skerries, and to my relief I was only charged €10 return :)

I have found in the past that a lot of their special offers are applicable if booked online only.

Well, the online ones are. This one isn't. Any promotions poster would say explicity if this was the case.
