The car 99 subaru vivio (aka my matchbox) is making a knocking noise when I turn. My uncle told me some possibilities of what it could be but I've forgotten what he said. I'm going to go to a garage and have them look under it but I want to know some of the possibilties of what it could be before I go.

Most likely cv joint, should cost maybe 200e?

Is it knocking noise that happens with the frequency of 1 knock per revolution of the wheels? (when the steering wheel is turned and the car is moving)

Is it coming from one side in particular or both sides?

If the clicking noise only happens when you turn the seering wheel, probally the CV joints. A mechanic will be able to tell you straight away when they drive it.
It could be something else but more than likely the CV joints in the front wheels. .

One possible source of a knocking noise you can eliminate yourself ...by checking that all the wheelnuts are tight

I think it is about a knock per revolution, it seems to be fairly constant and is faster/slower if the car is.

    Also it's both sides.

The other half had a similar issue at full lock on her VW Polo. Turns out the spring had sheared in half on one side of the suspension and half the bearings were gone. Nice.

Sounds like the wheel bearings have gone. Check the wheel nuts first though.

Probably CV joints. Get it to a garage ASAP or you'll get stuck somewhere.

    Is it the 4wd version?

Something similar in the wifes car, but its more of knocking when she drives, not in the turning, it could be a cracked engine bolt I was told.

    Check the boot,

    could be someone inside.

No the boot is still there and no one inside :) Not unless its moved under the engine ;)

The knocking is coming from the front.
