Hi folks, I noticed on a Sony Hi-Fi that I procured from my parent's house that there is a co-ax port on the back of it.

    What is it for?

If I run a coax from the wall where the TV signal comes in, will I get all manner of wonderful stations?

    I have NTL Digital TV.

    thanks.

And is it a matter of just splitting off a bit of co-ax, lashing it into the hi-fi, and tuning in as usual?

Great if it is, because the stereo is located very near my wi-fi box, and the interference is something fierce.

are there not two outputs on the box? One for TV and one for Radio? If not, then I'm not sure, but I'd imagine a splitter would have the same effect - once you plug it in, you just tune as normal - probably not the same frequencies as over the air, but wouldn't be difficult to find I'd say.

I think sky used to do something called a sky gnome for this very purpose, for some reason they took it off the market I think.

That amount of stations is only available on the EPG of the digital set-top box. You can run a stereo audio cable to 'line-in' sockets on your Hi-Fi (if it has them) - . However you cannot use the same digital set-top box for TV whilst it is used for radio.

Alternatively (only if your NTL is cable - not MMDS) , you will get a much smaller choice of stations directly on the FM band with a cable connection to the socket on the Hi-Fi mentioned.

the stations and frequencies are to be found in this thread (see DMC's post) which I assume are still the same
