Apple sells nostalgia with Commodore 64 iPhone app
    08.09.2009
Apple iPhone owners with a penchant for nostalgic 8-bit gaming are in for a treat with the new Commodore 64 emulator app from the App Store.

Including classics like Jupiter Landing and Jack Attack, the app, named C64, features original Commodore games graphics and that original SID (Sound Interface Device) sound that brings you back to the glorious heydays of the classic games console.

Brilliant, taken from Silicon Republic, this could be the beginning of the end of my life outside of iPhone.

There's a couple of SID play apps up on the App Store already to wet your appetities for 8bit goodness.

Apple just pulled the C64 app due to a way of being able to access the BASIC code, or something.

I just got a copy (not saying where). It looks nice but crashy as hell. Couldn't even get as far as starting a game..

"It was a glorious few moments for retro gamers when Manomio's C64 emulator was finally approved by Apple and released to the eager, nostalgic iPhone public. Then, calamity! It was gone again. Apparently some wily users figured out how to access the Commodore 64 BASIC system that was originally packaged with the emulator — something that Apple wasn't too happy with, given the nature of the interpreter's code. By setting the keyboard to 'always on,' launching a game and restarting BASIC, players got into the 'empty shell' of their C64 emulator."

    Here...

Oh my god Apple, run for the hills. Users will be able to run PRINT Statements on their iPhone or make their screen change random colours..... aaaahhhh !!! Best remove that from the AppStore... muppets.
