Stalest Gimmicks.

Bored in work, so felt like starting a thread.

This isn't for bad gimmicks, it's a discussion about who has / or had the stalest gimmicks. People like X-pac, who kept the same gimmick over a long period of time, even though it was obvious fans had become bored with the gimmick.

So who do you reckon had (or has) the stalest gimmick?

I'm sure there must be a few willing to label Kane as having a stale gimmick ...

I want to agree with you, but him taking Hardys place at Summerslam was damn awesome.

My vote would go to Matt Hardy, if you can call his character a gimmick. Finally, after several boring years, they finally turned him heel. And now he's face again because Jeff left. And I had such high hopes

I liked the version 1 gimmick, with the fun facts about Matt when he came out.

Haha, came in to crack the same joke.

Stalest man in WWE meanwhile HAS to be Big Show. Sick of him.

id say cena has the stalest charchter just been the same since he first turned face and every feud is the same near enough also think hhh or hbk could turn heel which would freshen up things as well especally an hbk heel turn

Yeah the Hornswaggle - Chavo thing EVERY WEEK makes me want to punch some dry wall.

I'm sick of Tommy Dreamer too.

Above all Jeff Hardy, same thing week in week out. I'm delighted he's gone tbh.

HHH Orton Batista Cena. Get them all off television for 6 months simultaneously.

I know there's a whole thread for this (and this may not fit some peoples' definition of 'gimmick') but....

The king of kings, the cerebral assasin, the Game, TRIPLE H!

Alright Michael Cole, Vince, Stephanie, Jean-Paul, we get it. HHH is meant to be really really good. So good, in fact, that he can't lose cleanly. Whoopdy F**king doo. You know why they wrote in kryptonite as the one thing that could hurt superman? Because people got heartily sick of knowing the guy would just wonder around kicking ass with zero chance of failing over the long term. Take a memo, creative team - we're really sick of seeing this guy being booked like the terminator. Stalest. Gimmick. Ever.

tbh for the past month and a half though he has been using the DX gimmick and has actually been somewhat putting Legacy over though (this is an argueably point but in comparison to pre SS they are def being made look stronger).

I think taker pulls it off though ... for me the long breaks he takes each year keeps it fresh, it allows other wrestlers to share and move into the spotlight. At one point I thought the character was stale ... but I think it became ... unstale ....

The DX gimmick that HBK and HHH do i would think is the stalest gimmick in the E at the moment though. Can't stand to watch Raw with that pair on. (So I generally don't).

Historically .... from what accounts I've read anyway, no first hand experience ... the NWO was truely run into the ground. Several times.

Another stale gimmick......the reluctant tag team partners that hate each other gimmick that is aired on a weekly basis on RAW.

    HOW WILL THEY CO-EXIST~!!!???

It especially an annoys me when they do this prior to Mania. Beurrgh! It's not that difficult to do something fresh...

The handicap match in WWE. How many more times do we have to see the damn faces overcome those damn odds?!?!?

Very, very rarely is it done well either. One that sticks out in my memory is Orton/Edge vs Michaels, in the lead up to Wrestlemania 23.

The worst is when the faces challenge the heels to a handicap match.

Has to be Mark Henry. They really are tearing the hole out of the 'World's Strongest Man' thing and he's only ever held two titles, European and ECW.

Are gimmicks not becoming more rare ? Well, since the Attitude or post-Attitude era. I'd have thought the BoogeyMan or MVP was a definite gimmick whereas Randy Orton and Cena et al are just "playing characters". Vince said years ago that he "made movies" so I think it's fair to say that there's been a shift towards using real names and bluring the line between the gimmick and the wrestler.

I thought when they reused the Body Donnas gimmick for Simon Dean a few years ago, that was pretty stale. At the minute though the "Hart Dynasty" and "The Legacy" just seems like a lame attempt to guarantee people that they're over because they're multi-generation.
