The starter belongs to a 65 Mustang.

As you can see the corner of the starter on the right hand side has broken off, is there any hope for this or is it a lost cause and just get a new one?

This was only bought a year ago, a reconditioned starter motor and has never given a moments trouble until yesterday.

Just want to know what you guys think my best option would be.

    Thanks

If you're in dublin almax near the walkinstown roundabout might be able to help you out. Probably your best bet is to buy a high performance one from the US.

(As an aside my alt needed replacing, it was cheaper for me to order it from the US)

That looks useable even like that - there's enough of that bolt hole left for a washer to catch. The bolts must have come loose for it to do that. The round register on the starter is what should locate it on whatever it is being bolted to.
You could always get it aluminium welded.

+1 that happened because it was not tightened properly, but is still perfectly useable as op said just get a nice fat washer and a fresh bolt

    Thanks for the advice folks.

Luckily a mate of mine was able to help me with the welding part of the job.

Thankfully there were no threads to contend with so hopefully it won't be too much of a problem.

    Thanks again for the help
