To any installers out there your input would be appreciated. I am looking to get a 90cm dish installed and have called several places all with very different prices and would like to get someones takes on whats more accurate. This is just for the dish installation and running the cable only. I am aware some installers will use more expensive equipment than others. Just to mention these are prices from Spanish installers and these are the four prices I have been quoted. I am thinking the €250 one is acceptable.

    1) €577
    2) €382
    3) €250
    4) €174

Fair enough you are in Spain but how would any installer here know what the going rate is over there. I'd imagine their overheads are quite different to ours. What make/model of dishes are bing used in each quote?

I am not sure of the equipment although most dishes there tend not to be branded and the ones which are do usually be http://www.televes.com/ which I know not to be that expensive. My thinking is that Irish prices in general for similar equipment and work must be most likely higher.

    televes are a good brand.

Aye I am aware they are a good and big company especially in Spain but not overly exorbitant price wise. They sell 90cm Televes dishes for €85 in the local DIY shop now unless some of them installers are offering gold plated dishes the first two quotes seem ridiculously high even with a decent LNB added in.

Yep the first two do seem high especially since I would expect Spain to have a lower cost base. What is the VAT rate in Spain?

I will PM you i have good bit of knowledge of dishes in Spain.

If you want English speaking channels on a dish in Spain a small dish like a sky dish will perform the very same as a 90cm no difference at all if in South Spain.

Thre is tons of info and really helpfull guy couldnt recommend him enough and his site is:

    http://www.satandpcguy.com/

I put up a dish that gets all free English channels in South Spain and the dish and arm cost me €25 and its hooked up to a regular pace sky digibox.

Yep I would agree. The VAT is 16%. I have another guy coming out to have a look and give a quote tomorrow. This is the same guy who installed my Canal/Digital+ a couple of years back so hopefully a decent price.

The business model must include a decent margin if they can come to site to quote.

You wont get the BBC's and ITVS on a small dish in spain. Astra 2d footprint only covers UK/Ireland and a majority of France.

could you not try installing it yourself or is it a difficult installation job i.e. it the cost high due to dangerous angles etc?

I recently upgraded my dish to a 1.1m and this gets me all the Sky channels, Channel Islands versions of Channel 4 and ITV. The channel 4 and ITV work perfect in the evenings but not during the middle of the day. Setanta Ireland works perfect on a small dish too.

Newstalk Radio works perfect on any size dish and RTE 1 Radio international version works perfect on the 1.1m dish. (this is all picked up way down on the Costa blanca)

Why is that? Something to do with air pressure/temperature?

One factor is changing power levels from the satellite.
