Hi I have a network cable going from my latop to my 360. I was going to use a router but that'd be more wires and I read somewhere it's unnecessary. Anyway the 360 won't detect my laptop whatsoever. I'm using vista home premium and the firewall is switched off, media sharing is activated, and I've added all videos and audios to the library...someone help?

I'm by no means certain on this, but I think you might need to use a crossover cable instead of a normal ethernet cable if connecting directly. I'm sure it's been done so a web search might show good hits.

Worst case though, connecting via a router should be handy enough and if your router has wifi, you'll only need to connect cables at the Xbox end (assuming you don't have a wireless adapter for the Xbox).
