Wondering if anyone has any experiences (Good/Bad) of Kia garages in Dublin for car servicing? Which is the most competitive for price?

    I have a 07 1.6 Diesel Ce'ed and it is due a service (34 Km).

BTW, this is my first post on boards!:P

Welcome to Boards! Try to avoid going to main dealerships for a service, they'll sting you bad (unless you want to use them for warranty purposes - don't Kias have 7 year warranties?) Someone will recommend a good independant garage if you want to explore that option.

    Thanks, Confab!

Yes, the 7 year Kia warranty is my main reason for getting a main dealer to do the service. Also, theres a knock in the steering that I would like to get fixed (It's a warranty item) at the same time.

    Where do you live?

There is a Kia garage next door to where I work which I could recomend - I have got to know many of the lads working there.

I'm in Dublin 15, so Kia Blanchardstown is the most convenient.

I bought the car off Michael Barrable Kia in Swords so was also thinking of taking it there.

Where is the Kia garage you are talking about? I was planning on ringing the two above for quotes but I'm expecting similiar prices.

The Kia in Blanch is at Coolmine, beside the Fire station. I have never been in there so cannot recommend it.

Be careful with servicing as I suspect you have to get an annual inspection done by a Kia garage. check with either Kia Ireland or your dealer before booking.

If it is Blanchardstown Renault I cannot recommend them. I bought a Megane there and it took them three years to sort it out.

Can recommend Airport Auto Centre, have had work done there previously (though not on a Kia). They are a main Kia dealer as far as I know

k&c garages in churchtown, seem to have some special offers on in servicing 199, don't no if that applies to diesel, you have to get your kia serviced every year or 15000 klms whichever is sooner, to maintain the warranty, and it has to be done by a KIA main dealer

Bringit back to the dealr where you bought it.
They may give you a feee courtesy car as you bought it from them, but the others may charge you a daily fee for a courtesy car, that is of course if you need one while you're car is in.
Ask whoever you get it done with to stamp and update your service booklet and keep the reciept - all good signs of good ownership for when you go to sell up;)

Course they are going to tell you that:p
Getting the work done elsewhere using genuine kia parts will not void/affect you warranty/statutory rights.

They have to update the car with new software/updates etc. to to stop the car from coming back with warranty issues,

I wouldnt like to bring my Ceed back to a kia dealer after 5 years to get warranty work done, and telling them that you had it serviced by your mate whos a mechanic the past 5 years with genuine kia parts

If it's serviced by a mechanic / garage with a VAT number and OEM parts are used, it can't invalidate the warranty.

It's a good idea to occasionally return the car to a main dealer for any software updates / service programs, but it isn't a requirement.

would kia really be bothered if there not serviced by amain dealer using the parts. arent most warrantys paid for by a 3rd party

I'm pretty sure one of the conditions of the extra 4 years warranty is
that it has been serviced by Kia all the way through.

...which would affect someones statutory rights as a consumer.

please explain how this is the case. If they require annual inspections to be done by Kia technicians for you to qualify for an extra 4 years warranty on top of the regular 3 year warranty, how does this affect your statuatory rights?

AFAIK the standard 3 year warranty is the same as any other manufacturer - i.e equivalent parts, VAT registered independents etc..

because regardless of what their terms nad conditions are, they are not worth the paper they are prnted on - warranty is warranty regardless of their demands within it.

That makes absolutely no sense, and doesn't explain your previous statement at all.

    Interesting............

Haven't heard that before and must check next time one of our C'eeds comes back in for a service.

I do think they'd have a hard time enforcing it though as it seems to fly in the face of block exemption.

Simply put, it does'nt matter what terms Kia place no their warranty. You rights as a consumer don't need to adhere to their T's & C'S. It's a popular misconception and one which is fueled by the misinformed (not pointing any fingers).

Block exemption allows all aftersales information to be made available to whoever requests them, however this information is only made available to people/technicians who meet the manufacturer's standards, such as having a complete tooling list as supplied by Kia in this case, the correct diagnostic equipment (anyplace from 2k-20k-depending on manufacturer) which are updated at regular intervals (at least every quarter and incurs a charge of approx €1500plus VAT per quarter depending on manufacturer) and have attended Kia's own training courses (usually a minimum of 2.5 training days pa required).
Therefore an independent servicing a few Kias every so often could not do this as it would not be economically viable.
Really you must be able to PROVE that your car was maintained exactly to manufacturer's standards, including having completed checklists etc..
The use of genuine parts does not prove this alone, eg; it may be a requirement to have the gearbox oil changed at a certain mileage, which an independent may be unaware of, thus hindering any claim later on should a gearbox problem occur.
Non appearance at the main dealer can also mean that "service campaigns" will not be carried out.
These are usually minor issues not warranting a recall campaign, but are carried out FOC by the dealer during routine maintenance.
Failure to having these done can usually exclude any warranty work being carried out until these have been done. we have bben charged to have these updates done before having warranty work done as sometimes their diagnostic equipment cannot due a check until software upgrades and the like have been done.
When we queried why we were being charged we were told that they cannot claim the time it takes to carry these out as they were supposed to be done during standard maintenance !!!

Hope this clears up some issues.

    My two cents:

I have 2 Ceed's , I get every second service done at the Kia dealer, the other is done by a mechanic down the road from me with the recommended oil and filter in the manual.

I have had both cars back for minor warranty replacements and never had a problem and both cars are 2007.

There ya go, real life experience of having a Kia and no issues.

They're both 07 cars, see what happens once they're out of the 3 year warranty. I'm perfectly aware on how regular warranties work re: servicing in non -franchise dealers. This Kia warranty isn't a regular warranty once the first 3 years are up.

    Source???

I asked the dealer about the warranty through the different years and he said no difference, bumper to bumper.

Gave a couple of Kia garages a call to get quotes.

Blanchardstown Kia, 310 euros. The girl took my reg. and somehow was able to tell me I had a petrol car. Strange, as I've been putting diesel in it and it works fine :p. I confirmed it was diesel and she confirmed it would be around 310 for the service.

Michael Barrable motors, 149 + Vat= 172 all in. Some difference.

Id imagine the first 3 years warranty would not be affected as long as you get the servicing done with kia parts etc as has been said already. You'd be covered by statutary rights for these anyway. The extra four years are offered in addition to any rights you have/had and I think they can stipulate the terms which you have to abide by to avail of it.

How does he know, he hasn't gone past 3 years yet. I'm not disputing that the last 4 years is bumper-to-bumper warranty,
I'm saying that getting the car inspected by a non main dealer will affect the last 4 years.
