So on Sept. 19th UFC 103 is on and on the same night Floyd Mayweather is fighting Juan Manuel Marquez. So are both these sports going to come to a head? Or will this pass unnoticed?

unnoticed...... IMO, but then what do I know?? :)

It's not going to pass unnoticed, I've been reading about it since the shows were signed. The boxing is likely to get a higher buyrate, but it won't mean much because it's not against a top UFC event

Unnoticed. Dont think its a strong enough card to bring in casual fans. Although I think it will be one of the most entertaining cards for a while.
looking forward to Paul Daley's debut. The McFedries Drwal Fight should provide fireworks and could be fight of the night.

Don't think this is much of a big deal, but I'd say if the boxing gets higher ratings, anti-mma journalists will run with it. The same way if UFC gets higher ratings pro-mma journalists etc. will run with it. A 'see I told you so' type thing.

I don't care really. I prefer MMA to boxing. I like it for what it is, not for its ratings.

The very same thing happened during the Mayweather Hatton fight.I dont think it had any drastic effects on either

Top level boxing in my opinion is bigger than MMA at the top but at the lower levels then i'd say MMA is bigger than boxing, does not matter anyway, great to have the option of both these nights for any fight fan..

i want mma and boxing to work together.. both are great to me.

This is the sort of stuff that makes people hate Dana, Marquez is lb 4 lb no 2 in the world and many people feel beat Pacquiou which would have had him at no 1, Mayweather has not fought in 19 months or so and Dana is complaining that he's not fighting Manny Pac!!

Also he said Floyd is scared of MMA! Using it to boost his own income does not make him scared, Dana's interview on the other hand does show him to be scared, so he's using bs propaganda to try get a few more ppv hits, Pretending he did not know who marquez was is downright disrespectful, if you asked 100 people on the street who machida was how many would know? maybe 4-5..

Get a life Dana.. you failed as a boxing promoter so what would you know about it.

I like dana white...but listening to his rant is ridiculous..having to diss a great sport like boxing and disrespect two legends of the game by saying nobody wants to see this fight to boost sales is really sad.

dana is right about the people not asking for this fight though. Floyd n manny was the fight crying out to be. Hopefully floyd wins and we get to see this fight in the future.

Arum: UFC is a load of garbage

BOXING promoter Bob Arum has launched a blistering attack on the UFC.
Arum, who represents pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao under his Top Rank banner, insists MMA fighters will never match up to stars of the sweet science.

Speaking to to Ariel Helwani of MMA Fanhouse, the 77-year-old blasted: "I've been to an MMA fight night and it's terrible.

"I admire Dana White and all the UFC guys as they've done very well.

"But for me it's junk, it's garbage.

"You've got guys rolling around on the ground and it's not a sport that shows great, great talent.

"The guys can't throw punches to save their ass and when a punch lands they've got no chin.

"They're not like boxers and aren't trained like them."

Arum has also played down talk that MMA and boxing are on collision course in the battle for viewers.

Floyd Mayweather Jnr's comeback is scheduled to take place on the same night as UFC 103.

But Arum is not worried about the two sports going head-to-head on September 19.

He said: "I look at the UFC audience and boxing audience as entirely different.

"Boxing's audience is largely ethnic and includes the hardcore fans who, like me, can't watch UFC.

"UFC's a bunch of skinhead white guys watching a bunch of people in the ring who also look like skinhead white guys.

"Ninety per cent of the MMA audience have tattoos — and I don't care because that's up to them.

"But they aren't people who will have any interest in boxing. The only guy they might want to see is Kelly Pavlik.

"For me, and people like me, MMA is not something that they ever cared to see. It's horrible."

While Arum is less than impressed with the sport, he admits boxing has been forced to learn from the rapid success enjoyed by MMA.

He added: "They've made us adapt as they do an unbelievable job in certain aspects — and we're trying to duplicate that.

"They're sensational promoters and are class guys who have built a good business.

"But I think the majority of my generation agree that it's junk."
