Sky Install Advice

I had a failed Sky Install today. The engineer was unable to get the box to dial home using my UPC phoneline. I've called UPC and it should work according to them. I've also seen the thread here where it was shown to work.

As it was multiroom he was unable to complete the install. While I was on the phone to Sky to see how much it would be to get the single box installed, he packed his gear and left. I wasn't at home at the time (mother in law was) so there was a bit of to-ing and fro-ing, but I thought that was a bit much.

I was passed from pillar to post with sky support. I had hoped to test the dial out facility using an old panasonic sky box, but I need an active viewing card.

Sky told me the only way I could get this was to get another new install. Eventually I talked to a nice guy who advised I could just request a card (second hand install or something) and use my existing box.

He said I could then order my second box later (assuming I can get my old box to phone home) for 49. Does that sound about right?

Would I be better buying a second box seperately and getting a viewing card through there?

What I had wanted was sky in my sitting room, and sky plus in the play room. Now I have just a sky box with no sub in the sitting room and a card on the way.

    Any advice appreciated.

    Thanks

Hi Mark, My condolences on the problems you were having. I have tried the UPC phoneline scenario myself twice in Limerick area and twice they failed.

I dont know who you were talking to on the Sky end of things but the prices they were quoting you were completely wrong for a start.

If you take a single Sky plus box at the beginning without phoneline it will cost €49 for the box, €50 for the install and €37.50 for manual connection. Total cost €136.50

If you take a single standard sky box at the beginning without phoneline it will be free for the box, €50 for the install and €37.50 for manual connection. Total cost €87.50

Sky plus afterwards would cost you €199 plus installation costs, so my advice would be to take it first if you feel the Upc you phone line you have wont work for you.

Feel free to pm me if you need any more details or require any more assistance.
