DCM training - missing one weeks training!

    Hi all,

Training for DCM and going well up to last weekend, a little injury niggle means I now have to take a few days off, am quite worried how this will affect my preparation. I am aiming at sub 4:30 (first marathon), did a 16 mile LSR weekend before last and was going for 18 miles this week but had to stop after 10 as I felt slight soreness in knee which I didn’t want to exacerbate any further. I have been advised by physio to take a few days break from running as there is nothing major wrong with the knee other than fatigue.
What do you think about missing a weeks training at this stage?
    Feeling a little depressed:(

    Don't be depressed!

If you've already got a 16 miler in the bag then you've lots of time left to get near to 18+ before your taper starts. Personally I find the relentless training miles to be tough going - much better to follow your physio's advice than to risk further damage. Just treat it as a small break and a chance to be fresh & enthusiastic when the knee clears up

Thanks macinalli, the depression is more from not being able to get out running for a few days to be honest. I am hoping the rest will be a good thing rather than something that is going to have a negitive effect. I am signed up to do the Half Marathon in Dublin so hope to be back on track in a few days!

Same boat as you here, haven't ran since last wed so missed my 16 miler. Some kind of stomach bug that has knocked me for 6. Dizzy spells - the works. "Hoping" to get out tomorrow for a 5 miler but even so I will be well behind this week as well. Just want to get the 16 miler done at the weekend so not too worried about missing a few mid week runs. Very frustrating though I agree.

dont be too worried if you most of your miles put in and dont be too hard on yourselves, a few runs missed will make little difference tho running when injured will make a huge negative difference

take as much time as is need to recover and get 1 or 2 runs inas long (and slow) as possible - theres plenty of time to get at least 2 more big runs in and if get up to 18 + you will most likely finish it
