Try AXA. They are usally fairly good. If you're with a broker they sholud get you the cheapest insurance.

    That's pretty good going.

What was the point in going for a 1.4?

I would say the cheapest way for you to get insurance would be to go for a Fiat Cinquecento. 0.9 engine. You would be down to at least 1700. And they cost very little.

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

    tried a few

There's your problem. You have to try them all! I'm not joking. All on-line sites and all insurers and brokers you can find in the yellow pages. Might take you half a day and it is annoying and boring, but it might take hundreds off the best quote you've got so far...

And I wouldn't go changing my car for something that's cheaper to insure. It might save you a few hundred in insurance, but you lose a lot of money when changing car.

I would say he likes the idea of being able to out accelerate something else on the road. Like the granny with the Zimmerframe on the path beside him.

My sister is 18 and has a 2003 1.4 Octavia, she has a full licence and 1 year NCB. I put a value of about €3,000 on it.

Insurance is about €700 with quinn in her own name.

We put in male when doing the quote (2 months ago) and it jumped to about 1,200. A lot, but not bad and better than how the OP is doing.

Try www.insure.ie . Ring them up though and you'll get a cheaper quote than online

Was she already insured for the past year in her own name, to be able to have a 1 year NCB and if so was it with Quinn?.

No. She was a named driver for 12 months with Axa and a named driver for 6 months with quinn. Had to have a spat with quinn to get them to accept the Axa named driving experience, but they did in the finish.

I doubt that any of the other companies would allow an NCB for a named driver.
My understanding is that in order to establish an NCB, the insurance policy must be in the insureds name.

Nope, they all do it quite readily believe it or not. I got a full NCB a few years ago from Hibernian on the basis of being a named driver for 5 years on an FBD policy.
