Pick me a car for AUD 30,000

Hi,

Long time no post. I'm interested to see what Boardsies turn up in this quest.

The budget is AUD 30,000 to buy a car no more than 4 years old and with under 60,000 kilometres. I've looked at Audi A4, BMW 3 Series, Lexus IS250 and Honda Accord Euro. I've discounted the 3 Series due to experience of reliability issues among family and friends.

The car must be within 100km of Sydney or Brisbane (Postcodes of 2000 & 4000 respectively). It can be a dealer or private sale. Thanks in advance for anyone interested in seeing what's available over here. It will likely be eventually exported to Ireland so it needs to be reasonably tax efficient, but VRT is not an issue.

who cares about tax ... purely for the reason that if you bring one of those back to Ireland people wont know what just blew by them with that thunderous V8 roar. :-D

I'm in Australia at the moment myself.. so jealous at some of the Serious machinery they drive over here ... along with their cheap petrol and cheap Rego and no compulsary insurance! Bah.. wish it was like this in Ireland

OP, if you buy a car to maybe bring back to Ireland have a look at our insurance and tax first. A 4 litre car will cost a fortune for you over here compared to Oz.

Inspections by RACQ, NRMA, RACV etc. are pretty much par for the course though. I reckon that the reason cars hold their value better is that they last longer in this climate.

That one would probably come in at AUD 25,000 with the deep discounts available. I don't think I'd drive a FIAT though due to resale value and reliability.

Far from it. I viewed a 2005 Audi A4 S Line 2 Litre Unleaded on Saturday and had an offer accepted. I also viewed a well specced 2006 Audi A4 2 Litre Unleaded with Leather Seats and Climate Control and had the same offer accepted. I don't think they're poverty spec?

Far from it ..... sure do you not see all the faded paint jobs (red cars that look pink) and cracked dashboard plastics due to sun damage

Reason 2nd hand cars hold their value better here (and most other countries) is because they are not obsessed with the first 2 numbers on their reg plate like in Ireland
