    Guys

Just a quick question on speeding fines in the post.

I have just recived a fixed fine for speeding in the post . Ok if i was speeding I hold my hands up and will pay the fine and take the points but the letter I got has just got a very very small picture of my car reg . I can't see from the picture where I was when I got done for the speeding offence .

I emailed the Garda office that handles all fixed fines and they said they would post out a black and white picture but
The photo captured at the time is taken to positively identify the Registration number of the vehicle in question and not taken to identify the driver.

Surely the picture on the fine in the post should show the location and speed of the vehicle when the offence happened.

I remember in Australia we got a picture with all this information on it so there could be no mistake .

While the ROBOT van takes a full size picture of your car, and depending on lighting the driver, the small reg on the top right hand corner is all that is printed (to reduce paper/ink etc)

What they meant by identifing the registration is that although you are the registered owner you may not have being driving it at the time of detection. Under section 107 RTA you as the registered owner must nominate a driver if you were not driving.

O and the FCPS notice has the place, date and time of detection on it, no need for the photo to show it.

I have to deal with this kind of thing as part of my job. we may be the registered owner of the vehicle, but its the driver who is liable. AFAIK, you can request a bigger image that may prove who was driving at the time.

+1 on the details of the detection. It should be on the notice itself. You shouldn't need a picture to tell you where you've been breaking the law...;)
