Mondeo Flywheel

    Hi all

My wifes 2003 Mondeo TDCI has its flywheel (DMF) on the way out so its going to need to be replaced, will do the clutch and CSC while we are at it as its recommended anyway when replacing the flywheel.

I will order the parts myself as it works out a good deal cheaper and a good local indy is willing to do the work. I think this will save me in the region of 700 euro over a quote for parts and labour from a main dealer.

So just to be sure i need the flywheel (thinking of sticking with a DMF even though i know the option of a solid conversion exists but the indy has had mixed results from solid conversions), clutch kit and slave cylinder. Is that the lot?

Any input would be much appreciated thanks

    Tin

That is all you need. the LUK part numbers are 624313633 (rep set pro) inc the CSC retails around €253 plus the vat flywheel number is 415018110 retails around €493 plus vat. Go to your local factor and they may be able to do something on price, most garages will get discount so there is a bit to play with. LUK clutches are OE on a hell of a lot of cars including Ford... Interesting to see how this compares to the dealer pricing as most dealers have dropped prices to match factors.

Thanks for the info , appreciate it. Ford quoted just short of a grand one hundred for the parts, with labour to go on that if they were going to do it. For a main dealer i was guessing that would add 300-400 for this kind of job, maybe i was overestimating that a bit. For a total of maybe 1350-1500 or so.

For the same parts shipped in from the uk i had a quote of 610 (800 from motorfactor here) and the local indy said he will go max 250 on the labour. So if i ship them in and get the indy to fit them i would be looking at maybe 800-850 range.

No worries, just remember the job on the Mondeo clutch is a hoe!!! Just in case the Indy hasn't done one before and expects an easy job.

Cheers, i think he said the exact same thing!! almost word for word.

The clutch change in them is a disaster. I was helping a buddy of mine do one (He's a Ford Mechanic) and with the car on the lift, two stands holding the subframe, me holding the 'box while he undid the bolts. it was horrid working around the subframe, drives, starter.....

Why can't the clutch change be like the '91 Vectra? Open the back of the 'box, remove circlip and pull layshaft. Remove inspection cover off bellhousing, remove clutch to flywheel bolts and the clutch is on the floor. The 'box doesn't have to come out even.

    I got mine from here:

    www.eurocarparts.com

They are very near Walsh's Motors where i got my job done up North and were able to drop the part over to the garage first for inspection.

Different cars different prices for both work and parts. The Mondeo is a particularly hard job, as posted above. From what I gather the Passat is not as bad. Do you mind me asking what type of passat?

I have a 6 mth old Mondeo and it is as I've read the 100th google page on DMF's I suspect this is whats wrong with mine as exact same symptoms.
Do you think I am ok to drive with a problem on it? Even to get to the garage?
    Cheers

If the car is only 6 months old, get it back to the dealers ASAP. You should be ok on a short drive.

Update on this, nothing to do with flywheel. Got a call today to simply say , car needs new engine. No oil left in it , only topped up 3 weeks ago and no oil light car on. Fleet company did'nt seem overly happy. What can I do , you would expect a 2009 €30k car to tell you when it's thirsty for lube.

Jaysis.... Your oil light is an oil pressure light rather than an oil level light.

You say a fleet car so are you doing high mileage? Also I'd imagine the fleet company will try and stick your company with the bill

Thats fair enough but is it not the case that if there is no oil there is no pressure and therefore should be a light? I know I should have checked, last time was about 3-4 weeks ago , I'm doing approx 1000k a week.
I think fleet company are going to try to work it out with ford but not sure.

I recently replaced my DMF and opted for the solid version.
It came in at almost €400 cheaper when compared to a replacement DMF.
Also the burrs that result from the wear of the two fly wheels end up clogging the nearby starter motor:mad:
There's no more clutch pedal vibration now that I have the solid fly wheel installed, the only notable diffence for my 02 model is that the pedal has the same light feel as the face lift version from 03-07.

    Glazers Out!
