Anyone any good or bad experience of leasing their own place and looking for tenants or living in an owner occupied house/flat?
    Any opinions more than welcome!

Anyone who has shared accommodation (as either an owner or a tenant) doubtless has had numerous lovely and awful experiences at different stages. Personally-

I returned to a room I was renting in an owner occuppied house on a Sunday evening- to find the owner's son had held a party over the weekend- my bed was drenched in beer, and there were used condoms on the floor. I packed my bags and promptly left in disgust.

I've had numerous flatmates who were far too vocal with their bedroom activities (incl. one who liked to have an audience and never closed her door).

As an apartment owner- one prospective renter wanted a written statement that she had exclusive use of the kitchen between certain hours daily, and that her mother from Asia could visit as she chose. That got an immediate no.

My no-couple's advert seemed to be like waving a red flag- I think I had 6 or 8 couples call me within an hour of the add going up. Of those that managed to slip through the phone call- 2 were single mother's with very young children.

I had a very bemused phone call from an investigator in the Revenue Commissioners about one prospective tenant who reported me as a tax evader because I didn't want the hassle of dealing with rent-allowance while renting out a room in my house. He had a good laugh- esp. as I had been declaring the income in full.

One lovely tenant (from Spain) kindly allowed me to use her car while she was abroad for a few weeks- which was incredibly decent of her (I was very broke at the time and couldn't afford a car myself and it was atrocious winter weather).

I've had to replace 4 or 5 immersion elements from people who have forgotten to turn off the heater after themselves.

There are loads and loads of big things and little things good and bad- that come from living with other people. I could go on and on.......

    ids agree with SMS's sentiments.

personalities determine how good your living experience is weather its with an owner occupier or other tennants.

Moved back from Accommodation & Property to Third-Level Accommodation, as the OP wants to get the student angle.

    Apologies for the confusion.
