Personal Tutor

Hey, just got a letter from the college about my personal tutor. I'm just a little confused about what I'm supposed to do.

It says "Your tutor is available to meet with you:

Day Date Time (1.5 hour slot)
Please make an appointment by email for the next week.

Does this mean that I have an appointment and I have to confirm it, or that I have to meet them sometime within this 1 and a half hour slot. Or that I have to make another appointment if this one doesn't suit. I'm just a little confused over the phrasing. Can anyone help me out?:o

Sounds to me like you have to email your tutor and make an appointment for some time during that 1.5 hour slot.

Sounds that way, but last year I just had to turn up at any time in the given period. No harm in emailing anyway.

    hey,
Was wondering if any freshers from last year went to this meeting. What happens, just an informal chat? Is it worth going to meet with them

Yeah so did I, but I don't think there was anything on the letter I got about having to email the tutor before hand

Yeah just an informal chat just so you know who your tutor is. Mine lasted about 5 minutes, just asking if you've joined any socities and any plans for the rest of the week and if you know anyone else in college and all that. You should definitely go though. If you ever need to talk to your tutor about something important, it shouldn't be your first time seeing them!

I went to my tutor last year. I thought he will gonna kill me. But it's just another person you meet and will know during the year. I seen my tutor during the year to cry on his shoulder :D, while others were stuck in the pav digging some drinks to forget how crappy their life is. was worth it lol

Yeah I got a letter yesterday saying the tutor is available to meet you at a 2 hour slot each day. So email or just rock on up?

Just go see your tutor. You never know when you might need them. I had to use mine a couple of times and he was a great help-his intervention was the difference between me getting a first and a 2:1 in 3rd year, so it's important that he knows you're one of his students.

Was anyone actually told where to meet their tutor? The letter said to meet him at 5pm but I've no idea where to find him...

Edit: I just found the list of where they are but mine is just in the Dental Hospital it seems... Damn.

Is there not a contact number or email on your letter. Feck it, I'm gonna email my dude and find out what the story is. :)

It'd be worth meeting them just for a quick chat. Send an email just to confirm a time.

It's definitely worth it. You will be involved with them if you have to appeal results, change course, drop out, get advice, lots of things.

Meeting your tutor is absolutely essential. I ended up getting in a spot of college related trouble, and I doubt mine would have been quite as nice as she was if I had not bothered to invest 5 minutes dropping into her during Freshers' week. She was also really helpful during some financial bother, and even gave me a summer job without even needing an interview this year :)

    In summary, do it.

Anyone else keep singing 'personal jesus' to themselves whenever they see this thread? No? Just me? Ah well.

I agree with everyone who has said you should meet your tutor. They're usually very friendly people too.

Thought I already asked this on here but..do you have to make an appointment or just show up at one of the available slots?

My letter doesn't state anything about making an appointment, so I'd say you're grand to show up at the timeslot on the letter unless it specifically requests you send them an email - at the same time, I'll probably send one to be safe. >.<

I emailed mine, and she suggested to come whenever it suited me best during the times given.

She seemed nice, I hope she is haha :o

Mine didnt say to email, but i did anyway and he got back to me and said ya can come any time within the slot, but for conveniece to come at the start of it. It wasnt exactly clear, but i got the impression he reckons most people will come at the start of the time period, and he could meet them all at the same time.

ha ha... saw this and brought me back to a few ehmmm... years ago... not sure if the system has changed but personal tutors well worth the invested time for grade issues or 'seriously f*cked up and how do I get out of this?' problems
Academic tutors, if they still exist a complete waste of time... want to discuss your leaving results as if they might give access to your inner soul:D
