With such a strong, successful team that must have another good year in them, why wouldn't he stay on and achieve the absolute pinnacle of hurling success?

By the same token, I'd say if they're knocked out next year he will resign. There is nothing left for him to achieve within hurling. The next step would surely have to be as an author, businessman, politician, academic, guru, or whatever!

I don't know the man's mind though... just surmising!

It could be the dream of 6-in-a-row that makes him stay on. :D

I think it's time he gave someone else a chance at the Kilkenny helm and maybe help develop promising Dublin.

    Yesterday wasn't about Dublin.

Why can't some people on here forget about Dublin for a while. They have improved, but there is no way IMO Cody would ever manage another county. One of the keys to his success is based on a huge pride he has for Kilkenny.

I agree he has huge pride for Kilkenny, but he also loves hurling for it's own sake and will not wish to ride into a shallow sunset when he finishes with Kilkenny. Dublin would be a good challenge for him, would improve Leinster hurling (of which he is also proud by the way) and further prove his managerial credentials. I know Brian and think he could be tempted for the furtherance of hurling in the country.

Seamus Darby is already in training with the Offaly Hurling team this morning I heard. (I'm a Kerryman and want to see Kilkenny stopped at all costs before Hurking dies a death and the Kilkenny County championship becomes the "All-Ireland".

I reckon they will be stopped next year. They won't make the 5-in-a-row. They are good, but they are definitely on the downward curve. Tipp really tested them yesterday and they were lucky with the breaks they got.

He aint going anywhere. The team though is starting to look a bit old (compare their winning margins this year in all championship games to last year) and will face a right battle next year to win a 5th All Ireland in a row

I lost what respect I had left for Brian Cody for his treatment of Mart Morrissey yesterday. He came across as a Bully. His arrogant attitude to Morrissey's simple question about the controversial penalty decision (No Controversy, IT WAS NOT A PENALTY) was a disgrace. Is this the person that we are all sick and tired of listening about from the likes of Dunphy and the rest of the media that we should be looking up to. He came across as small minded Thug. Too small minded to answer a simple qustion. Cody uses the media to feather his own nest but then abuses them when they ask a question about the match.

I always thought Brian Cody was cool until yesterday, I have no respect for him now at all, I'd have hated to see him if he lost, Cody needs to take a leaf out of the book of the likes of Mickey Harte or Jack O'Connor two great managers who know how to lose humbly but better know how to win graciously. I think Cody was mad as he knew Kilkenny should have lost and Marty stood on his toes and he then took it out on Marty. Marty is a sporting gent and his treatment of him was a disgrace.

I always felt this would be Codys last year, especialy with the book coming out. What more has he to do? But I think hteres a chance he'll stay on next year but that would most certainly be the end of it.

As for losing respect, Marty did provoke that. He kept persisting and when does Cody ever argue with the ref, he should have left it if not the first, the second time when you could start to hear Cody was getting irked.

He attempted to change subject after the second but Cody interrupted him to keep talking about it

    LOL, seriously.

Ya, Cody will leave now that he is on the verge of being the first manager ever to win 5 AI's in a row.

He will obviously stay on until KK are beaten.

Yeah i would agree i think he will stay at least one probably 2 years i mean he's in good health with the squad of generations like what is there to leave? when he can go for 5 in a row!

why would he stay on until they lose a serious match? that would be daft. he would be better off going out on a high. he could give so much to the lesser counties. id love to see him manage another county. just to see what he could get out of them.
