Radon Barrier / DPC Placement

    Hi,

    Looking for some feedback on the method my blocklayer has used in laying the radon barrier (shown red) and the DPC (shown blue). It is illustarted int he attached image.

    It consists of 2 blocks on flat and the radon barrier (red) runs under the 3rd block. Once the floor was poured and screeded, the radon barrier was brought up and then ran out to footpath level over a soap block. This was done after the floor was poured so that the radon barrier would not be torn while the floor was being screeded.

    After that, the inner leaf was put on edge and 2 foot DPC (blue) was laid on top of the inner leaf and out on top of the radon barrier. There was no joining done between the DPC and the radon barrier. After that another block was laid on top of the radon barrier and DPC. So it looks like it will cater for expelling any water that runs down the cavity but my two questions are:

    1) Is this a bad implementation? Will this create a slip plane (as DPC/Radon are in same course of block work) or will this not be a problem seeing as the inner leaf at the same course is not sitting on the radon barrier? I don’t see how the DPC could be effective here without running it straight out over the radon barrier?

    2) Assuming 1) is not an issue, should the DPC be joined to the radon barrier all around the house using radon barrier tape or is it sufficient to have the DPC just lying on the radon barrier? The way I look at it now, it seems possible for water to run (from footpath) between the DPC and radon barrier and accumulate in my subfloor (100m concrete slab)?
    Does this look okay as I did not find any similar implementation on the IAB cert for the radon barrier or in the home bond manual.

    you have answered your own question here.

    If any material is not installed in accordance with the certificate specification then it ceases to be considered 'certified' and, i would argue, fit for use.

    What radon membrane is used?

    It is a bit of a long winded way way of doing it imo. The radon barrier should be used in conjunction like that and a DPC. There is also no upstand in the radon barrier, this is something I always look for and insist on.
    However, I don't think a slip plane would be created, based on the sheer weight of the house. And as long at its laid evenly, it should allow water ingress, any ripples or twists will however, esp at corners.

    In my opinion, its not right, it could work fine. But it also could fail?
