Something like Dave, SumoTV, that shows a lot of repeats and that? Just curious.

Are you looking to receive the channel, or actually trying to start up a TV station?

    1. You need a licence from a European Regulator. The Broadcasting Commission of Ireland (BCI) www.bci.ie provide them to Irish Broadcasters or you can go to OfCom in the UK who provide licences to the UKs set of TV channels www.ofcom.co.uk. (Each cost about €2000).

    2. You will need content, Irish broadcasters pay between €500 - €2500 per hour for US material and your local out put can cost from €5,000+ per hour.

    3. You will need to broadcast arqiva will do it for you if you go for an OfCom Licence and it will be a requirement of the licence that you broadcast from the UK.

TV3, City Channel, Setanta may also provide you with broadcast at a price but they would be your competition, I am not sure if their is just a provider available in Ireland (TG4 and RTÉ might also be happy to provide you with transmission facilities) not really sure about how this would work in Ireland TBH.

    4. You need advertisers and sponsors.

    Good Luck.

What's not mentioned in any of the above is that you need money. Lots of it, even to run a fairly "cheap" television channel. Even for repeats programme acquisition costs are steep.

They make a good few points in that document from a business perspective.

    1. That many channels use 3 hours for Teleshopping and 3 hours for Telequiz
    2. That nearly 3 hours will be made up of advertising
    3. And that only 2 hours is new programming the rest is mainly repeats

I wonder how Buzz TV gets away with it?

    From a viewer perspective

    1. Must sleep but need to know the answer if it isn't 50 then what is it?
    2. I must go out an get some Car insurance
    3. Oh look this is new, oh wait it was show 3 months ago :(

I wonder what my future will be like!

A basic channel I worked with with very cheap imports, music videos and a tiny amount of home produced content was costing £60,000 a month in 2007.

To launch on Sky, you need an EPG slot. These have to be queued for - it can take 18 months or more to get one after applying for it.
