Starting a business

    Hi,
Currently investigating starting a business and was wondering if anyone knows if videogames (Wii/PS3/Xbox etc) require liscences for use in public venues? Thinking of the way music has royalty fees... In other words, is there an IMRO type organisation that collects royalties for software usage?

    Thanks,
    Emmet.

I highly doubt that there is, you would only need a licence if you were selling games from what I gather. To double-check, have a run through the user agreement of any recent games you have.

syou ae only allowed to use the software yourself, if you require any other licence you need to contract the producer/distributor. for example Valve (Half Life 2, etc) has different licenses for internet cafes/clubs, etc

Thanks for the info. I am in the research stages and this helps a lot. I am thinking of setting up kids private party rooms using xboxes, wii's, ps3's etc so could probably need club lisences.

Insurance might be expensive for something like that.

    Hi,
Anyone have any ideas about how to get feedback on wheter or not the idea would be succesful?

The basic idea would be to have a private party room for kids parties based around video game platforms. Pumpitup in the US does it for bouncy castle parties and I was at multiple parties there and it was fantastic. It was great having just your party there and no-one else.

I see a lot of people using these places for kids parties but I have not seen a private dedicated party place, nor have I seen anything in the video game space.

The party places we have been to have all been open to the public
