    Contenders for me would be

    PJ Ryan
    Tommy Walsh
    Eoin Kelly
    Lar Corbett

With PJ Ryan just sneaking it imo

Its announced on the Sunday Game. They have been known to let it slip on the radio during the evening though

    Nominations would probs be;
    Tommy Walsh
    Pj Ryan
    Eoin Kelly

I think I'd give it to Ryan, to have a few great saves like that... He was brilliant today.

I think PJ Ryan was the difference between the teams, I couldn't have seen Tipp losing if they had scored even one goal by ten minutes into the second half.

I feel sorry for Eoin Kelly, 13 points, I think and to then lose an All Ireland final. Heard people writing him off beforehand, but a mighty performance from him, far surpassing King Henry on the day.

I can't be 100% sure on this, but i reckon Ryan would be the first goalkeeper to ever win the RTE Man of the Match award in the All Ireland final.

Be Interesting be between only two players for me Tommy Walsh and PJ Ryan

Eoin Kelly had great game but think he will come up short to get it tonight

I believe PJ will get it but if I had to make the call I'd pick Tommy, I love his work rate, the lad takes some slack all the time (from media, plenty of people on sites like this) but he always gives 100% when he takes to the field, and for the size of him, he can still tower above opposition to catch an almost reachable ball.
But just for history I'd say the goalie will get a rare MOTM accolade.

    PJ Ryan.

Tommy Walsh was incredible today from first minute to last, and a wonderful point from play. After all the stick he took after the Galway game he has been immense and could get hurler of the year.

i wouldnt know for sure but i'd say a goalie has reveived one by now

I think it had to be Ryan or Kelly and very rare that it goes to a player on the losing side, which i dont get tbh. Anyway, Kellys missed goal chances and 2 bad 65s compared to Ryan who really didnt do a thing wrong today means i do think he deserved it. An Allstar performance if there ever was one.

Seriously, its highly unusual that after an All Ireland Hurling final we would be talking about a goal keeper as the best player on the pitch. RTE will probably mention it if he gets the award.

I dunno actually, he could be right. Very very rare a keeper wins it in general so might well be the first. No place to check tho unfortunately :(

Padraig Kelly of Galway won Man of the Match depite losing the 1993 Final against Kilkenny. Its very rare though.

Ah yea but it is very rare, not only in GAA but in every sport. Today it didnt matter tho cos Ryan deserved it anyway.

PJ Ryan had one absolutely outstanding performance in todays AI-final. I have watched the match twice since I watched it live earlier today and he was definitely the one man who shone above. Yes I agree KevIRL, he certainly deserves the Man of the Match award.

PJ Ryan, Tommy Walsh or Eoin Kelly, all 3 played out of their skin today!

ive never seen one anyway. Pascal Mcconell should have got it last year for Tyrone and wud have done but for the brilliance of Sean Kavanagh.
