This will be Tyson's toughest test to date without question. There is alot of hype around Tyson at the minute. If he is everything there saying he is, he should win this one in style with relative easy but I cant see it going that way. I think Tyson will win majority decision
with McDermott making it quite tough.

Makes me ask the question should the next heavyweight champ of the world not beat someone like McDermott more easily and is he the next Lennox Lewis or the next Audley Harrison???

Hope to God he's the next Heavyweight Super star cuz the division needs someone like him and I think this fight will reveal a whole lot more about Tyson Fury

Anyway cant wait to see on SKY SPORTS this friday:)

Should be a very good fight. Id say Fury will make it that way. His career is off to a promising start so far taking on actual challenges in his first 7 fights, something that is almost unheard of nowadays.

McDermott is Far too slow to trouble Fury me thinks and isn't busy enough, does'nt throw enough accurate punches, I think fury will finish him inside the distance, but I will accept being laughed at tomorrow if I've got it ar$e ways

For some reason I'm really excited about this.

Fighters as they move up in the business go through different tests, and tonight we get to see the test of whether Tyson Fury is up to British title level(yet).

He's fought nowhere near this level before, and despite looking very impressive against Scott Belshaw, McDermott has a bit more about him than the young Lisburn man.
Despite stopping all 7 of his opponents so far, Fury has been questioned for being an arm puncher and not getting full extension on his punches.
Due to this some have questioned his power, and other than capitulating against Matt Skelton in a British title challenge a few years back McDermott has shown a reasonable chin.

McDermott is also a lot more used to going the long distance if needed, having completed two 12 rounders and two 10 rounders in his career.
Fury on the other-hand has never been past round 4.

Fury has looked uncomfortable when backed up and when fighters are throwing punches at him and he could be in trouble if that isn't fixed by tonight. McDermott although not a massive puncher has a respectable dig, and will drive forward if he sees any sense of weakness. 'Big' John also has a very consistent jab and troubles many fighters with it putting them out of their rhythm and not allowing them to get an flow into their work.
Fury has a great jab himself though, and with his reach advantage over McDermott it'll be interesting to see how the battle of the jab goes.

Fury has so many questions to answer to prove he's up to this level, but I think he'll do it. I think his jab will be extremely effective, stop McDermott from landing his own jab and allow Tyson to line up good body shots.
McDermott's an awful spoiler at times and can be a real rough-house. But it may be a lot tougher for him to employ the jab and grab tactics tonight.

I can Fury will have to go further than he's every gone before, around 7 or 8 rounds before McDermott is stopped or possibly retired by his corner. Like the Belshaw fight, watch out for bodyshots.

    Hopefully it's an entertaining fight.

Referee is a joke, 98-92 to Fury? I think he was watching a different fight
All the same it was a good showing by both fighters, shame the sport has to marred by decisions like this.

Great fight, I felt Sky Sports and particularly Jim Watt were their usual selves when it came to John McDermott, very biased in his favour as always.

Terry O'Connor's scorecard was a joke, I can't make a case for Fury winning let alone 98-92. I did however think he managed to pull out a draw, but I wouldn't argue with anyone who had 97-93 or 96-94 McDermott as there were 2 close rounds I edged to Fury.

There should definitely be a rematch down the line though, infact I reckon the BBBofC will mandate it before too long.

Edit: Frank Maloney: 'Dick Turpin at least wears a mask when he robs you' :D

Totally agree as usual Sky Sports have to pick someone to champion, bever just neutral unbiased commentry

McDermott deserved the win, he was the fighter asking all the questions landing the hardest blows, Fury accumalated more landed jabs, couple od decent flurrys to the body and face but really didnt impress, looked out of his depth for the early rounds but came back into it tho not enough so to win it for me.

Terrible decision I thought, he scored it 8-2 to Fury in rounds. McDermott was destroying him with right hands most the fight. Fair play to Fury I thought he was dead on his feet in the 8th when he looked like he'd struggle to make the final bell, but he put in 2 great rounds in the 9th and 10th.

    Day light robbery:mad:

Tyson Fury looked so one dimensional, but I suppose we can put it down too inexperience. It answered a few questions Fury can take a shot, he does maybe lack power McDermott walked through all his puches.

Is Tyson Fury World Class??? He's still young. Only what? 21... But he has a lot too learn and is miles away from being world class at the minute. Time is on his side however and he will get better, me thinks.

I had it 98-93 Mc Dermott but the decision was absolutely disgraceful.

Joke of a decision. Even if you had Fury winning it could only have been 96-94. There's no way he won 8 rounds

Well said Bigears, it was quite close and fury threw a 236 more punches so i think this swayed it for him, accuracy was on mcdermotts side but the way the pundits where commentating certainly influences peoples opinions on the outcome, this could have gone either way in reality but the busier man will always stand out if its the ref judging as he's right on top of the action..

To add to that, mcdermott wanted out in the last couple of rounds also and was lucky the ref did not pull him out for turning his back..

Yeah he turned his back to him about two or three times. Fury definitely finished stronger but they were both pretty knackered by the end. McDermott got some great shots in but Fury was more active, the scoring though was ridiculous. Both boxers need to condition themselves a hell of a lot better than that...
