Long story but I am a girl and I drive a 00 Rover 25 and Ive been to two mechanics in Dublin and been ripped off by both of them in the past. One guy charged me double what it would have cost me in Galway to replace a timing belt and another guy told me he had changed the belts on the car and the following month they went. I went to another mechanic in Galway (where Im from) who showed me the old belts which were worn away.

Basically I turned on the car last night and there is a mad rattle in there - it sounds like its a belt or something going around. I live in Crumlin/ Kimmage area and wont be able to get my car to Galway to get this checked out.

As I said, Im a bit wary of mechanics as the previous two Ive been too were not the best.

Does anyone know a relaible mechanic in/ around Crumlin/ Kimmage area (and if not there, then worht travelling for).

Also what should I be expecting to be charged for a service for a 00 Rover 25?

Any advice would be appreciated! My dad is not one for Car advice and my male friends dont have a clue either. Thanks

First, always ask for a quote before they start the work. Then shop around. Also, start learning a bit about cars, whether via the internet or a local car maintenance course. Thirdly, buy a reliable car next time - the petrol Rovers are notorious for expensive engine problems.

Oil Service (takes synthetic oil) & Filter & check for faults should be about €100-€110

Full Service (plugs, filters, oil etc) should be about €200 provided you don't need tyres etc.

Can recommend a really good one but he's an hours drive from you in north Meath been using him for years. A couple of months ago was working in Dublin and my gear box stopped sellecting some gears so went straight to a garage in town, they told me new gear box €€€€. I limped the van back to Martin's garage and he found out it was just a selector ring €30 labour included, so I gave him €50.
