A few quid has landed in my pocket so I'm looking for a new aeg. Was going to get an Ares tavor but all the stories just put me off so not sure what to get now. Already have an Mp5 which is great & a hk416 which is great too.Was thinking of the king arms galil sar but just looking for a bit of advice really.

My advice is go down to a retailer and talk to the lads, try out a few options and see what you fancy!

Think that's the best idea as there's a lot of options

Aye...there are a lot out there, and easiest way to find something you like is to see it before you, and getting to try it out. As they say...it's harder to give it back, once you've (dry) fired it!

A great gun to have is the, albeit common, M4. There are a lot of parts out there, which makes it very changable to suit your needs. HobbyAirsoft has a lot of full-metal full-trade M4's...it's a little depressing seeing everything you want. My wallet cries!

Agreed, go have a look and feel of a few of the guns. It's amazing how your opinions can chance once youve copped a grope...:D

Take a trip to the guys at Hobbyairsoft at Rathcoole and have a look at the KA Galil there - lovely piece and I think the guys are doing an offer on it at the mo. Very tempted myself.;)
They have / are building a small range at their Kildare shop to allow you to fire a few rounds in safety. It's good to try em out and get an idea of the weight/ergonomics before you splash out...

    Best of luck.

If you want to stick with the H&K theme your collection isn't complete without some kind of G36 (I have a Star one and it's quite nice).

If you want to go for something really different to what you have you could check out a Bullpup but try before you buy (Redbarn have Augs for rental) because not everyone likes having the mag way back in their armpit (I thought it was nice when I tried it and the example I was using sounded really nice in my ear but it was made of crap plastic (ABS does not have good endurance vs being hit by BBs, or anything for that matter)).

As for AKs, well, a friend of mine has an expensive metal one with real wood furniture ... it sure isn't anything I'd want to go playing with (entirely out of personal preference) but it sure is a thiegh rubbingly good piece of airsofting device.

Just make sure you before you go to the shop to find out that they have a good selection in stock!

Have the whole day off to look tomorrow so should be fun looking around & have to go to rathcoole so I'll drop in anyway. Not a fan of AK's either but I'll let you know later as I have been thinking of a G36.:D

If you are looking at g36, I recommend G36c. Very versatile AEG. Most of the time you will be involved in mid-range. Along with the gun one-point sling is a must.

I also prefer to swap original magwell with m4 mod. Will alow you to carry more mags per pouch and find them mags easier to fill.

What model are you interested in? G36? STAR/Ares best replicas of that model.

For M4/M16 variations you are looking at G&G. Also VFC makes great AEGs. If you don't mind plastic body then Tokyo Marui (over time you can upgrade your ABS body with metal parts). You can also look into Classic Army range.

Another option is to get a good base AEG, modify gearbox and re-place wiring this way you can get very good AEG for the fracture of the price.

I's steer clear of anything by classic army, nowadays a lot of their stuff is total s***e. The JG G36 is an absolute rock solid piece. The real G36 is plastic so you wont find a metal airsoft version

Well the search is over bought a KA Galil today. Funnily enough the moment I picked it up it felt rock solid & there was a few quid off it & a free mag too.Was torn between a Sig 556 and the Galil but it felt great so roll on the weekend:D
