Their hundred dollar ISBN package doesn't cover Ireland, only Germany, Holland and the UK (in Europe), something they don't mention in their promotional material.

They invoice Irish addresses in converted British pounds, so you never know quite what you will pay. With the pound going up and down like a kangeroo on aphrodisiacs, that's a right nuisance if you're on a budget.

If you want to be solid about your costs, I'd recommended finding a continental European supplier. Next time I find myself preparing a book, I'm going to look at Holland; they generally speak good English there, and I speak some Dutch.

    Hi People

I find this topic very interesting as I am thinking about giving Lulu a go with my next book. Has anyone actually used their services and if so I would appreciate a heads up of your experiences here. What things do and don't work and what should I look out for?

I've got a couple of test books from them, 6x9, and they seem perfectly good quality to me (as a reader). I've had the problem I've mentioned with ISBNs, and I've had to order my own. They've just turned up, so I might have a bunch of books to sell in a month or so.

If it's been done for the money, then almost certainly not.

I am getting the impression that not everyone is entirely happy with Lulu. Anyone recommend another assisted self publishing alternative?

I did hear a few complaints about lulu.

There are a few other options of similar type out there.

I've also seen newbrandbooks.com through twitter recently looks good on price and certainly says a lot of good stuff but will have to try it out to make sure - has anyone else tried it?
