Anywhere to sell a crashed car.

My neighbour was in an accident recently and as a result crashed his 07 530d BMW.

Looking at options to replace it and obviously his best option would be if he did not have to trade in his crashed car, either crashed or repaired.

Would take about 13.5K to fix it in a BMW garage as the damage is to the front.

Anyone any idea where he could try to sell the crashed car. Seems like a long shot but if someone could do it up themselves they would have a seriously cheap car, and he would be trading for cash, a win-win for both parties.

    Does he not have insurance?

bring it to a scrappage place ..... what has his insurance said ?.... they'll probably take the car as part of the claim.

ps. he might make some selling off bits and pieces online (adverts.ie or ebay.ie)

or even sell it off on ebay - for spares or repair.(should get someone interested)

lol... excellent service history - crashed once :D

EDIT: Did you get a quote from a BMW garage (for your figure of 15K) ...how do you know it'll cost about 15K.

The quote from a BMW garage to fix it is about 13.5K

He is only offered 35K on it for a trade in so if he was to sell the car for less than 20K he would be in a better position as he would be going to buy his next car as a cash buyer.

So 35K less the 13.5K to fix it up gives a value of 21.5K for it unfixed.

The car would have cost over 80K 2 years ago.

It could probably be fixed up a lot cheaper than 15K if it was not being done by a main dealer. i.e. someone in the trade.

I won't publish the photos here as it is not my car but PM me for details.

Also on checking it was 13.5K to fix.

He does, but the car will have lost a lot of money even when it is fixed up.

It's trade in value after the crash even with it fixed is probably about 10K less than before.

The insurance does not cover the full depreciation of the car only the costs fo fixing it.

Selling the car would leave him in a better position to purchase as he would be a cash buyer, not selling a repaired car.

There is a low mile 07 530d on driving.ie for 37,950 euro (asking price against trade ins) at main dealer (merc). Im sure this could be had for alot less straight. I would therefore assume that this crashed car would be worth significantly less than 35,000 when fixed (maybe 28,000).
If the bmw repair price is 13.5k, Its possible it coul be perfectly repaired for 7 to 8k depending on the exact damage. Add in the significant profit that any trader would require to take this on and I woul say the crashed car as is might be worth 15k. Dont forget an 07 530d will be hard to shift as an 08 model of the same car is much cheaper to tax. Brilliant car though no doubt

    Mick,

    My calculations exactly.

This could give the opportunity for someone who could repair the car a cheap car, and my mate would be able to go as a cash buyer and get the car he wants.

Any ideas who would buy the car for 15K?

I think at that price everyone wins, except the car dealer :)

It was a great spec of a car with loads of extras (SAT NAV, Leather etc..). Not sure exactly what since it was about a year since I was in it.
