Anybody been to Malta - who to travel with/stay? Would not be travelling until early October, is this a good time to travel there? Anybody have any experience there? Please note also working on a budget so bargains derfinitley welcome :-)

Other cheap holiday idea for October welcome...would like to see the sun but does not need to be a Sun Holiday

we flew there with ryanair, no problems at all, nice flights, there in early february lovely weather about 18-20 degrees every day, we stayed in valetta and despite the fact it was carnival time it was still very quiet almost dead after 6pm (on non-carnival nights) so bear that in mind, st julians about 5 miles from valletta is where the nightlife is centered on. i found malta quite cheap, one place near where they fire the guns every morning in valletta had lunches for like 3euro or something mad like that :P

the only public transport on the island is old buses and they go all over the place, short journeys take forever :(

Anyone know if there is a boat trip one can do from Malta to Scicily? Going to Malta in june and seeing as Scicily is only 50 odd miles away thought there might be a boat trip one could take.

I have been to Malta many times. I was there in October once and the weather was quite changeable with lovely sunny spells and then thundery showers. Malta can also be very windy and chilly at night in October. I have stayed in different places like Paradise Bay which is very quiet and peaceful and in St Julians ( hotel art cavelieri - book a view of the bay) which is busy resort but nice. If you want nightlife you can go to Paceville nearby. There is a lot to see in Valletta, Mdina etc. We hired a car when we were in Paradise Bay but driving is a bit iffy but now usually take the bus - €1.50 ticket per day.
