    Hi,

I am a non-fiction author and I need an accountant to sort out my tax.

Can anybody recommend an accoutant that has dealt with royalties before?

i think you should ask your friends and family to recommend an accountant rather than asking here as the only recommendation you will get is someone recommending themself.

    Hi,

As per TCA 1997 Writers & Authors are exempt from Income Tax. See below information as per www.revenue.ie

    Exemption from Income Tax:
There is provision for exemption from income tax, subject to conditions, of certain profits or income. The principal exemptions are from income tax on:
    • Incomes below certain thresholds
    • Certain earnings of writers, composers and artists
However, Income may be liable for Income Levy eventhough it is exempt from Income Tax. Care to be taken in relation to Preliminary Tax to be paid on 31st October 2009 (17th November 2009 if paid through ROS).

    Regards,

Re the exeption - when you say author you mean books, right? I think this is what you mean, just to make 100% sure.

The OP works in the area of non-fiction, which means the artists tax exemption does not apply if the work is not considered 'original and creative'.
