There was a thread on PI recently that I found intriguing. I am aware that one of the qualities [symptoms?] of someone with narcissism, is a lack of or low empathy capacity.

Given that empathy is crucial, of not essential in any kind of conflict resolution, would this mean that any kind of conflict resolution with a narcissist is impossible?

You're thinking too much, and you cannot apply any single concept about NPD to every person who could be diagnosed with it. The world isn't made up of people with mental disorders, metrovelvet, it's made up of just people who are each different.

I know that but included in this great eclectic mix are people with disorders, and those which include a lack of empathy. Are these people capable of conflict resolution, kevster, when they are not capable of empathy?

Not too sure about the whole narcissism as a personality disorder thing (maybe more a personality type??) but I'd say it is possible to achieve conflict resolution with someone lacking in empathy. However, they would have to be motivated by something else, something in their own interest e.g. a reduction in their own stress and discomfort. So, you might achieve what is ostensibly a resolution to your conflict but it still might leave you feeling dissatisfied if you are looking for someone who will strive to sort out disagreements for the 'right' reasons.
