Afraid of catching something

I'm in my early 20's and have been working and living abroad for the last while. For some reason I've become really wary and scared of catching something from somewhere, e.g, toilet or shower. I was living on the continent for 6 months, sharing a flat with a girl with a dubious sexual history. Once I was cleaning the shower without any gloves and I got a brown substance on my finger and under my nail. It could have been rust from the plughole, or I dread to think, some sort of period blood? Do I have any chance of having caught something from this? If I go to the GP will he think I'm mad?

Noone can say what the substance was, if you're that worried then go to your GP.
If you feel that strongly about cleanliness, invest in lots of rubber gloves and antibacterial handwash, and make sure areas are cleaned regularly. I would doubt that you caught something from touching the 'substance', if you had a cut or ingested it that might be different. GP will alleviate any fears

I won't be too worried about substance you can hardly contract sex disease from getting something on your fingers
