Hello, i am looking for advice regarding my situation:

I am in a job for the past 5 years. I landed the job after college and stuck it out. Although it was unrelated to what i studied, it was a job. I finished college and wasn't to interested in getting work in what i studied. I only really choosed the course during school because it was close to home and it was something to pass the time cause at that age i just didn't have a clue what i wanted to do.

So i am in a job for 5 years. Like i said it was a job and i didn't know what i wanted out of life so i stuck it out. 5 years on and i absolutely hate it. It was ok when i first started but now i am in tears going home. Its such a bad atmosphere at work. No one makes your job easy there. My work colleugues work against me rather than doing a bit of team work. Everything always has to be a competition to see who does better. Its not as if the management even recognises what you do but yet everyone has to be in competition with each other. Its not as if we get piece rate, we don't.
If they see you struggling they leave you to it. I was helping someone there during the week that was lifting heavy bags, i offered to take one while reaching over to take it off her, and she said "and now you'll take the credit for that". For carrying a bag!

Its a job and not a career. Im basically doing the bare minimum cause i don't want to put my back out or anything else for that matter! What's the point in it? No one else puts themselves out.

I have finally decided what i wanted to do with my life. Well i hope so. Im going for something i have always had an interest in and giving it a try and to get out of where i am. I have started to save and searching for a trainee position. I have already sent out about 20 cvs just within the county im from. And i haven't got so much an interview. Im thinking of sending out my cv to another county and making the move (cause its where il end up studing anyway).

But what if i don't get anything?

Im giving myself until xmas to find work and if i don't get anything, i have to get out of the place im in anyway. I can't face another day of it. Its phsically and emotionally draining.
Where can i go with 4k? Anything just to get out.

Op, I could have written that post. I know exactly how you feel, am having panic attacks going home every evening thinking about having to go back to work the next day. Have shed buckets of tears over it in the last 2 months.

When you say you're going to find a trainee position, can you give an idea fo what it's in? Do you have to go to college or what is it? Im' not sure where you can go with 4k but maybe you could try working in an industry even a bit related to what you're interested in, rather than finding a direct trainee position?

It's hard to suggest with such a vague post, but I wanted to answer just to let you knwo you're not alone in how you feel about work.

If you can't find a trainee position why not try a course that's related to it and that will teach you valuable skills that will help make you more attractive as a trainee to prospective employers. I know there's an added cost involved in this so maybe you could get a loan from a family member or stick out your job until you have enough saved up. You're right to keep the head down in work if you hate it, no point attracting attention if everyone is only out to snipe at each other. Having said that they can't all be a bad doses, there might be someone you could latch onto if only to slag off the other workers!
