Sharing pc internet connection for ATA

    Good Day Guyz.

    Heres a pretty strange question.

    When I was living in Dublin, I had a netgear ATA router which was setup for SIP using internetcalls.com over a smart telecom broadband connection.

    Now I am based in Kerry where I am using 3 broadband via a 3g usb dongle is my only option. The broadband service works fine.

    I have been using a voip usb phone but would like (if its possible) to allow my netgear ATA to access the internet connection to improve the call quality.

    I had tried sharing the 3g connection/internet connection sharing.
    This then set my lan port on the laptop to 192.168.0.1
    I assumed that I could then just set the ip address on the ATA to a static ip address of 192.168.0.2 subnet mask of 255.255.255.0
    There are question about default gateway which I set to 192.168.0.1
    There are also DNS questions which I am not sure the answer to.
    I have tried using a crossover lan cable as well as a normal lan cable to connect the ATA to my laptop.

    Unfortunately I'm not getting anywhere. The ATA is unable to access the internet.

    Also I don't have a 2nd pc to plug into the lan port of the laptop to test if internet connection sharing is working.

    Is the above idea feasible/possible to implement ?

    Although I haven't tried such a setup myself, my first thought would be to leave the ATA as you had it in Dublin. In other words allow the DHCP client the ATA has built-in to auto-discover the correct IP address, gateway and DNS server.

    ICS on the PC will become the DHCP server and the two should negotiate fine without any intervention by you in the default configuration.

    As far as NAT and port-forwarding in such a scenario I'm afraid I don't know. Good luck!

    When your 3 modem is in you should bridge that connection with your LAN connection and give static IPs to your computer and ATA.
