Spanish Canal +

    Hi all,
My girlfriend is Spanish. She would like to get Spanish TV here in Dublin. The plan is to sign up to a digital+ in Spain. The contract is only €15 a month for the package she wants. http://abonate.plus.es/ofertadigitalplus/desc_productos.php?producto=paquetes

Basically, I would just like to confirm that if I bring the box here after it has been properly installed in Spain, it will work here fine. Is hooking it up to HIPASAT 30W with a 90cm dish the only option? or can I get away with a smaller dish on to another satelite? Astra perhaps?

    Any help/advice is greatly appreciated.

It will work here fine,Digital + broadcast on 30w and 19e ,both strong satellites.
A 60cm dish should suffice for either.

I do not think that Digital + cards are paired to the receiver so the card will work in most receivers that have a card slot.

thats great that you think a 60 cm will suffice! and also that 19E works! makes installation of a dish cnsiiderably easer for me!

We are going to get the package "officially" installed at the end of this month in Spain. After that, take the box to Ireland and hook it up to a dish here.

There is a good deal at the moment, €30 for installation, box and dish! We will leave dish in Spain on the side of the house for potential future use as no-one lives in the house at the moment.

looking forward to watching premership football via this way also!!!

I was about to say be prepared to spend "mucho monies" in my best spanish voice but as she is from there no worry of that. Handy to be able to get the stuff locally in spain.

The signal strength from the C+ Espana TP'S is very strong which is handy and as said a 60cm should be fine but beware rainfade.

Dont hold your breath. http://www.goltelevision.com/ has taken over much of the premiership coverage in Spain and is not available on Digital+. Even Spanish football is non-existent unless you signup for a dedicated football pack Liga+ which costs €15 pm.

Canal+ is also broadcast on 19E if that is easier for you. All the channels are available there also and the card should open both. In fact you should use 19E instead of 30W as you have better coverage in Ireland.

I assume the installed setup works on both 19 east and 30 west and not either or?

    Cheers Redout,

I moved it to 19E and works a dream with perfect reception.

For some reason I was getting nothing out of 30W. The box was showing that signal was being received but no channels were available. Is this because the box settings were configured for 19E in Spain?

Youd need a bigger dish for 30w than a 60cm thats for sure.

Possibly. I know my Canal+ is using 19E. The canal+ boxes dont allow channels to be added to them as they have the option blanked out. I am almost certain that 30W is what many of the older installations are using. The Hispasat 30W is focused primarily on the iberian peninsula so you can get away without a pretty small dish there. The 19E is better suited for reception in Ireland. Premiership coverage is on LA 2 (TVE 2) and Teledeporte. Most is on Gol television though which is not available.

I have been told your card should work on both. I will bring my box back to Ireland shortly and test it.

30 west is as strong, possibly stronger than 19 east.

What box are you using? The one you got with Canal+ in Spain or some other one?

Now that TVEI is no longer on Sky, I have to get something to keep the wife happy. I got one of those portable camping sat kits from Lidl some time back and haven't been using it. But I guess the dish that came with it is way too small! My plan is to point at 19.2E where TVEI is FTA, but I would like to have to option of upgrading to Canal+ at a later date.

My options are either, add a second LNB to my current sky dish, but I'm not sure I want to do that, as I don't fancy getting up on my roof.

The second option is to buy a larger dish in Maplin this weekend and use the crappy box I got from Lidl.

Would any of the standard boxes work with Canal+ or do you have to use the supplied box to get the TV guide etc like you do with Sky?

Is it possible to activate a Canal+ spain card from Ireland? My inlaws can send me a new card and box but I am a little worried that it cannot be activated from here. I already have a dish and FTA receiver for 30W.

you might need a Digital+ box or some sort of a cam. Digital+ brought out Nagravision 3 cards about a year ago.

Sorry, that's what I meant - an official Ditital+ box and card. any problems activating these from Ireland?

No. If you have an official receiver then it doesnt matter what country you are in once you can pick up the satellite.

Guys, sorry for posting on an old thread, but I was wondering if any of you could post a picture of your Canal boxes (ours is something like Philips DSXL6072, I'm not allowed to post a picture).

Canal Plus told the missus that's the only non-HD box you can get for Astra. I find that a little hard to believe: the remote is archaic and the box is extremely big.

    Thanks very much!
