Eradicate PS3 (Slim) noise, operate outside room.

loadest factor of the ps3 is not even the whistle the fan causes, its the chassy vibrating from the hum when the drive spins at full tilt. now you have low-end and hi-end noise, these two factors are easily more irritating than the phat's single annoyance, its air swoosh. which may be louder, but trust me its not as headache inducing as the rumble and whine. why there is still a need for discs in this day & age baffles me, but it is because its still the only way they can thwart piracy. a full install would be nice, just requiring the disc be read on startup but it seems they can't even encrypt that securely.

if you want to have to never worry about operational noise again, operate it outside your room. only reason you even need to see or touch the console (aside from an occasional data transfer) is to change a damn disc.. i charge the Dualshock from the laptop beside me, headset too.


..NOW late night playing Arkham Asylum when it quietens down i know for certain the only machine hum is coming the electroshock treatment room. thats the one in-game ftr.. lemme add the only reason this became an obsession is because the Slim is being touted as 'quieter'. it's louder. however it need make no noise at all, just remove it from the room.

I don't understand the problem, the PS3 is whisper quiet from my experience with it.

Try using an Xbox and you'll know what real noise is. Even if you install the game fully so the disc drive isn't in use, the fan makes more noise than the PS3 ever could from my experience with the two.

yeah but i don't wanna mistake whispers within arkham asylum with whispers from my console. its all over the net, folks don't like it. however the Slim is only out a few days, posts for it too will inevitabely show up.



EDIT: take note of the latter paragraph. i've not had the misfortune of using an xBox, but i have lived with PS3 'phat' noise for 3yrs. personally my slim's ambience is truly headache inducing - only when its gone do i realize what i should have been missing all these years.

Only problem I have with my phat 3 is when I'm watching a blu-ray ,tense movie scene with low sound and the fookin fan starts havin a canary.

A game would want to be fairly boring to notice the sounds of a noisey ps3.

even still, a machine operation would wanna be fairly annoyin for a fan of grindcore to be bothered by. not a case of boring, even if certain stealth games are cranked up woofer in tow it can dominate the soundscape.

leave it alone or contribute. any1 else got a slim?

Surround sound is the answer, making sure your eardrums bleed will stop you hearing the fan on Slim,Phat,Xbox

well.. my answer is the solution i came to - n its f'n sweet.

ftr i never did care about device noise ruining ambience til now. testament to the Slim.

at last. well i thought my slim was quieter at first but... i mean its defo a quieter 'air swoosh'.. but that very swoosh causes a whistle pitch from mine, maybe because its been compacted more..

- doesn't whistle on you then? no funny jibes i'm serious.. -pls you have to do a seriously quiet test. but then once you detect it you'll always hear it thereafter ur call... also during 100% disc spin the unit had a ferocious hum when sidestanding on a hardwood floor

if you don't hear it i am exchanging this one. the phat made more 'obvious' noise but it didn't bug me like this.

EDIT: personally i think it is the norm. or a high instance - i don't really wanna put more spacejunk out there returning a sparkly new item that can't be sold on the grounds of what may be its typical operation, but if yours is said to be grand it is goin back. plain-as

To be perfectly honest there's basically no noise from my Slim. Have lying down and had a 3 hour session last night. I must've gotten lucky because it's about a foot and a half from a radiator which was actually on for an hour. Dunno what else to tell ya, to hear any noise from it I have to turn everything else off, even the telly because the static sound on it (poor TV) drowns out the noise of the console easily.

ok. it won't vibrate (as) much flat out when disc spins, but if u got nothin... and the fan whistle somehow overrides louder stuff for me.. annoyin pitch. u lucky sod

EDIT: i have put it on bubble wrap in my attic space, the area below 4ft that gets cordoned off.. functions like another room in this instance so gonna persist w/ it because right now i can't hear a thing. but for the in-game ambience
