I'm doing a masters degree right now. I was in a tutorial the other day, and we were discussing the control of HIV globally.

The point was being discussed about how we need to jump on the epidemic at early stages when it breaks out in regions where it traditionally hasn't been a huge problem.

The way to do this is to attack the epidemic where it is starting..carefully target the population where the disease is emanating from. In most countries this has been sex workers initially. Men catch it from them, and bring the disease home, and then it spreads into the population at large.

So, my class has a huge international component, lots of civil servants and public health medics from government departments around the world.

So, we were all discussing the various ways people have tried to control HIV in sex workers.

Then, this Burmese guy came up with a cracker...."I know how to solve this" he said, matter-of-factly. "You know how 10 years ago if I wanted a can of coke I had to go to a shop and the lady working in the shop had to hand me a can herself. But now I want one, I put money in a slot and I get one without having to meet a human. I think this is the way forward for prostitution".

"Are you actually talking about sex robots?" I asked.

    "yes" he replied earnestly.

So, there you have it. Sex workers in Burma are gonna be out on their ear soon :P

that only works if hes the only guy using the robot, in the gay/lesbian(esp) community if they all share the toys they still catch the STDs, right now we if we can just stop HIV from spreading, we will get rid of it completely in a few decades

Well it does definitely sound like something from Futurama, although there'll probably be alot of people coming in with friction burns

I don't dispute this, but I don't think that having sex with machines is going to stop it.Everyone who wants to have sex with machines is alredy doing so ;)

Apparently you can get them cheaper if you try and pick up a second hand one.
