Does anyone know can a Garda arrange to have a fixed penalty fine issued by another Garda cancelled.
I seem to remember years ago people would take traffic fines to their Garda friends to have them cancelled.
I'm wondering what the current situation is.

Do you really want to get done for seeking to pervert the course of justice ... with a traffic ticket?

No. I am not interested in 'perverting the course of justice'.
I, personally, would not consider the effort worthwhile for a small fine and would not like to put any Garda people I know on the spot.

The topic came up at work and I thought I'd ask the question.

    No no no no noooooooooooooo.

Once an FCPS is issued into the handheld computer, its is automatically sent to the FCPS processing officer in Thurles who in turn issue the ticket. Once its on there is no turning back.

A supt may cancel and FCPS if he believes it warrants cancelling. IE. detected by GATSO van rushing a sick child to hospital (sending written Doctors evidence to support of course), person writes in, Supt sends down letter to detecting member asking him/her for their recommendations (usually run with their recommendations and never against) and then can cancel ticket.

This process of canceling is not wide spread and some supts will never cancel tickets due to audits from the professional standards board who check cancelled tickets etc.

    O and......sense when do Gardaí have friends:D:D:D:D

Nice Guy has it correct other than i would add, Superintendents can only cancel FCPS offenses which happened in their area.
