    hi
i checked all forum and i didn't find what i wanted so........ please read!
    as i find on http://www.education.ie/home/home.jsp?maincat=&pcategory=10861&ecategory=10876&sectionpage=12251&language=EN&link=link001&page=1&doc=45913

    about
    The residency requirement in the State for grant eligibility will be increased from one year to three out of the past five years for the student - a move that's in line with provisions already outlined in the Student Support Bill;
The duration of the break in studies required for re-entry as an independently assessed mature student will be increased from one year to three years.

id like to ask if............ does it mean 3 years in Ireland or 3 years in the same county??? (because i was living a bit here and there... and i could proof residency for one year in next year but i wont if they will need proof of 3 years in the same county:mad:)

in september this year ill start one year PLC course and in next year i want go for advance diploma (in the same place) and will i still could apply for grant? (i cant get in this year grant because i dont have proof of address from 1 october 2008 --> i only have bill from december 2008 which they said is not enought:mad:)

i almost accept that i can forget about grants...... but then i have questions about BTEA ;)

i apply this year for BTEA (im still waiting for letter with answer:()
i know that if i will get BTEA i can work part time during the course. but is it possible then to apply for BTEA in next year as well? (if i will working part time) or only way will be if i will stay without work at all?!?!

maybe a bit silly questions but im really confused about all this stuff;)

i would understand that its more likely residency in Ireland(State).maybe if you want to just make sure, ring your local county council office, where you should get full info on what required.:)

I only really know about BTEA so can't comment on the maintenance grant. But to answer your questions above(as best I can):

' but is it possible then to apply for BTEA in next year as well? (if i will working part time) or only way will be if i will stay without work at all?!?!'

as far as i know Yes, you can work part-time and apply for BTEA the next year if your course is related to the one your are about to begin now.

From the BTEA information on welfare.ie

Earnings from part-time employment or summer holiday work do not affect the basic BTEA payment

BTEA participants who cannot find a job during the summer may claim an unemployment payment, but only if they satisfy the usual qualifying conditions.

This seems to imply that BTEA receivers can work during the summer normally and then re-enter study with BTEA again when their course begins again. But like you said you would be going on to a new course after the 1 your are about to start. So this next quote probably applies to you too:

If you are going on to the next year of your course or moving to a higher qualification, you will get your BTEA again from the start of the new academic year regardless of whether you got an unemployment payment for the summer.

If you finish one course, but intend moving to a higher qualification in the following academic year, you must re-apply for BTEA. The allowance is not paid between courses.

So this says to me again that you can work normally and re-apply for BTEA successfully.

I would definately contact your local social welfare office and ask them though to be 100% certain.

Don't worry too much about it, the welfare office is swapped at the moment with applications. Once they have your application and the relevant detaIls etc.. it should not take that long to process.

If you are awaiting a payment from BTEA I understand you can go to your local community welfare officer who may be able to help you regards payment.

    Hope it helps..
