I have an old powermac G4. There is a slot available for an extra internal hard drive. Am I limited in the size of drive I can install? I want to have the master drive for applications only and the extra drive for files.

I could always go for the external drive option, in that case, what drive would be suitable, the drive would have to be fast and reliable as it will be in use constantly as it will store files for use with photoshop/illustrator etc.

    Any help would be appreciated.

If I remember correctly there is a 128GB limit on the size of internal hard drives in the G4s. You could put a larger drive in but it will only use 128GB - I'm not sure if that was a hardware or OS 9.x restriction though. Also keep in mind that the internal drives are ATA or SCSI.

If you're going for the external option make sure that the drive is Firewire. G4s are a bit flakey in terms of using USB hard drives and you certainly won't be able to boot the external drive if it's USB.
